“Hey, glad I caught you at a good time.” Wouldn’t say it’s a good time, but that’s definitely not something he needs to know about. “You busy right now?”

I shake my head. “Just taking a break for the day.”

“I’ll be there to pick you up in fifteen. Make sure you’re ready.” Then the line clicks and I blink at the phone. Where the hell is planning on taking me?

Instead of focusing on what’s going on, I rush upstairs and take a quick shower before throwing on a shirt and pants. I’m rushing out the front door when John pulls into the driveway and I then slip into the passenger seat and look over at him.

“What’s going on?”

He shakes his head and shrugs. “I just haven’t got to spend much time with you since you got here. I figured we could go have lunch or something.”

My hands are sweating just sitting next to him right now. Knowing that I just had my fingers in his daughter's pussy, how am I going to get through a meal with him? I guess we’re about to find out since it would be extra weird if I declined the invitation.

My knuckles are aching by the time John drops me back off at Piper’s. I spent most of the time clenching my fists together every time he mentioned her name. It almost slipped out more than once that I’ve been defiling his little girl, but I managed to keep it locked up tight.

At least enough that he’s not questioning me. He knows that we’ve been getting closer since I got here, but not close intimately. I know he thinks of me more as a designated uncle and God, it feels gross to even think of me in that way with her because all I see is more. She’s not the girl I watched grow up or the one who used to call me Uncle B.

Piper is much more than that now.

She’s all woman, curves for days, eyes that can see right into your soul, and an angelic voice that can bring any grown man to their knees. There’s nothing about her that screams little girl, and that’s a very dangerous thing for me, clearly.

I shake my head at the thoughts and push through my front door, thanking God that Piper’s still not here and that she’s not the type to take breaks. Maybe I could surprise her with another meal for dinner, she seemed to enjoy the last one I made for her. Which brings me back to the issue of her barely eating anything around me.

Is she like that all the time?

That situation at her office with the one lady, I forget her name, was weird as hell and I was surprised when Piper asked me to leave her office. I’m not stupid enough to think that when she was alone she stuck her hands into that garbage and grabbed the sandwich I got for her. I’m certain she never ate anything else the rest of the night for fear that looking at the thing was going to pop a button on her pants.

It’s late when I see headlights shining on the wall behind the TV, so I shut it off and walk over to the large window looking out at the driveway. Piper’s stomping out of her car, but instead of heading toward her own front porch, she makes determined steps toward mine.

Shit, I never made her dinner like I was supposed to because I fell asleep, then got caught up in my show. I also didn’t expect her to come over here when she got off. Knowing how hard she works throughout the day I’m sure she needs her rest. The knock on the door causes me to jump, even though I knew she was coming here, and I slowly make my way over to it.

I give her a small smile. “Piper, what are you doing here?”

She stomps inside and points a finger at me. “I’m not letting you push me away, Beau. Not a damn chance.”

“Push you away?”

Piper glares at me. “Let’s not act like that wasn’t what you were trying to do after that stunt you pulled earlier. I spent all day thinking about what I was going to say to you, you know?” She shrugs and chuckles. “After the thousandth set of words, I figured I’d just wing it.”

God, she looks so sexy with her face red from the anger coursing through her paired with the red pantsuit she has on. I take a step towards her, but she shakes her head and puts a hand up in the air, stopping any other movements I try to make.

“I’m not letting you push me away, but I’m also not letting you play with my feelings,” she snaps, then spreads her arms out wide and says, “So, I’m leaving it up to you. You can either send me right back out the door and I’ll leave with my head held high, or you can strip me right here and now before taking me to your room.”

Is there even a choice?

How could I possibly send her away when she looks like the devil right now? There’s nothing but delicious sin dripping from her and I want to soak in it, swallow it all up, and beg her for more. I’m not sure there’s any other choice I can make at this moment, or ever.

When I walk to the door, not taking my eyes off hers, I can sense the moment when she thinks I’m going to kick her out. Her eyes fall slowly shut, then she nods and drops her arms to her sides. But, the sound of the door slamming has her snapping them back open and she stares at me as I make my way over to her.

This is the decision that matters most right now, and I’m not going to screw it up.

Chapter Thirteen

Piper

There’sashadowcastover me when I open my eyes and I find Beau standing over me with a smile on his face. I groan and turn into the blankets, wishing I could sleep a little longer, but duty always calls. When I try to reach for my phone on the nightstand, Beau's hand wraps around my wrist and places it back at my side.

“I have to check in with work,” I mumble.
