That had me moving back toward Esta where she and Amory cried together.
“Please,” she stated, as we all came in and her green eyes hit mine. “Do not breathe a word of this to anyone.” She tried to stand but closed her eyes as if it were difficult. I moved to catch her before she fell, scooping her out of the water. “I will let them know when I am ready,” she added, eyelids heavy.
She didn’t say a word about me carrying her in my arms, which showed just how exhausted she must be feeling.
Malachi bobbed his head. Nyx and Whit bowed.
“We need to get her back to her quarters,” Amory stated.
“Before anyone sees,” Emric added.
“She needs time to recover. Readjust.” Amory wrinkled her nose. “Fortunately for us, the rain would help cover us. Unfortunately for us, there are a dozen shifters waiting.”
“We can’t just swear them to secrecy and fly her back to the castle, can we?” Emric asked.
Esta’s head tucked into the curve of my neck as she finished passing out.
Amory shook her head. “They will want to wait for her after the attack. They won’t leave without her.”
Malachi let out a snort.Unless you tell them she decided to spend the night again. We can fly with them all back to the castle. I’ll bring only Whit back with me later.
“The rest of us not going with will be too suspicious,” Amory stated, thinking over that plan. She turned to me. “You can stay with her though. They are used to listening to me. I will tell them she wishes to be alone and the rest of us will leave.”
“They won’t suspect me of anything untoward by you leaving me here with her?” I asked.
Amory shook her head. “Word traveled that she allowed you to enter her lair. So they won’t think anything of it, no. Just that you are staying here and will work again in the morning on these little experiments.”
Malachi added,And you won’t be here by morning. We will come back by nightfall and deliver you back.
The queen was finally changed back, cause for one hell of a celebration across all of Dra Skor, yet here we were having to scheme up a plan just to give her a moment.
All hell was going to break loose when Dra Skor saw their queen was back. Mostly of the good variety, but because of whoever wanted her gone, also not. So we needed to keep her safe while she adjusted back.
“I don’t like leaving Keir here,” Dex argued.
I will protect him,Nyx offered.Both of them.
“I’m not burnt out yet,” I offered to Dex. “I still have some power. And we will hide in her lair. No one would dare go near it, because no one other than us knows she’s no longer in her dragon form.”
“He has a point,” Emric agreed.
“Fine,” Dex caved. “But let the record say that I still don’t like it.”
Malachi told him,I’ll bring you back with us, Muscles.
Everyone moved into action, Amory spinning to me. “She is going to need water and food when she wakes up, though I am not sure she will by the time we get back. I will bring back some food with me, the lake in the lairs is also safe to drink.” She went to get on Malachi but stalled. “Keep her safe, Keir. And thank you. I could kiss you for this. You may have just prevented a war.”
But she surprisingly wasn’t talking about one with Wylan, she was talking about the one within.
“I’ve got her,” I assured her, moving toward Esta’s cave. As I heard wings behind us beating as they all took flight, I added to an unconscious Esta. “You hear that? These Dra Skor women keep throwing themselves at me.”

As soon asI got Esta settled in the lone bedroom in her lair, I realized her dress was now soaked from the lake. I wanted to use my magic to dry her clothes, but I just wished she was awake to give me the okay to do so. Then again, knowing Esta like I did, I was fairly certain she would give me the okay for that before she’d give me the okay to change her clothes while she was in a deep sleep.
“I have to get you dry, Es,” I told her before I sent my magic to her clothes.
She didn’t stir. She didn’t do a thing, only the slight rise and fall of her chest while she breathed. I felt the skin on her arm and noted that she felt cold, so I pulled up the blankets to cover her bare arms.
