She grinned. “Oh. So for the good information I should go to him then?”

I shrugged. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

“Thank you, Prince Keiran, for all that you have been doing in Dra Skor. Remarkable that in the past few months you have been able to undo so much that had remained stagnant for years.”

“You’re most welcome,” I replied. “I only wish I had known sooner, so I could have helped before now.”

“Before things got messy, you mean?” Morana never broke eye contact.

This was the most truthful conversation so far of the night. Most were poignant questions about how we had gotten Esta back, how soon we would try a shifter stuck in their human form, and so on. Questions which were not even up to me to decide, yet they somehow thought I held sway.

“Yes,” I admitted.

She gave me a shrug. “The timing for things is never what we want, but somehow it always works out in the end if only our wills are strong enough to withstand the wait for opportunity.”

“Let me change a few more shifters before you go complimenting me,” I joked.

“Nonsense,” she said as she dipped her head to leave and reached a hand out to squeeze my wrist. “It is well deserved.”

As she walked into the fray of people, John muttered next to me, “She doesn’t know when to give up, does she?”

I smiled at the next person up to speak to me while saying, “At least it was less aggressive this time around.”

What felt like hours later, the dancing was beginning. Esta danced with her father first, and since I was relieved of my line of people while they were watching their queen, I went in search of Amory.

Naturally, Malachi was also nearby.

“How are you?” Amory asked.

“I think I prefer the bonfires,” I offered honestly.

Malachi grinned. “There will be one tonight, brother. It is likely already started up outside. We can head down after we are done here.” His voice still sounded a bit strained. Just like Esta’s had.

I gave him a grateful nod. “I have been told so many heart wrenching stories. I think people assume if they get to me, I will move them ahead in the queue of Enchanted to work on.”

She winced. “We have to get that lottery drawing done. Sooner rather than later.”

“And how are the two of you?” I asked.

“Well, these jackets haven’t gotten any more comfortable,” Malachi commented.

Amory groaned. “And my feet are killing me. I was supposed to be done being Esta’s proxy, but I haven’t gotten the chance to sit down yet.”

In a pause of quiet, I let out a laugh. “Well aren’t we all party poopers. Complaining on a night in which we are supposed to be celebrating as hard as the rest of them.”

I briefly looked around to see numerous others sitting at chairs along the edge of the walls. Sitting was allowed while the queen danced, it appeared.

I found three chairs off in the farthest corner. “All you need to do is ask, Amory.”

I sent my magic along the ground and brought the chairs to us, going so far as to scoot them behind us, so all Amory had to do was sit down.

Esta’s head whipped in our direction as she saw my magic in motion.

With a sigh, Amory slumped down. “Thanks, Keir.”

We sat and continued speaking; it wasn’t lost on me that some moved away from us as soon as they saw my magic. But if we were going to have to work on all of Dra Skor’s Enchanted one at a time, they simply needed to get used to it.

Esta had switched to Jagen after her dance with her father, which I found interesting. I wondered if that was her idea or his. Either way, it showed siblings who stood together, not apart.
