I released Amory’s hand and said to Emric, “Again.”

Together, we grunted and groaned against the pull of it.

With a frustrated yell from Emric, we pulled harder and harder, until finally it started to move.

Amory let out a gasp and that noise motivated me to push harder. My muscles were straining, and I was starting to sweat also.

I pulled and pulled, and before I knew it, Malachi was there in his horse form, pushing at my chest, trying to help me pull the magic backward.

It actually helped.

“Don’t let go,” I demanded of Emric though I knew he was as exhausted as I was.

Zaccai was next to Emric, doing the same as Malachi had done to me. Pushing us backward. They couldn’t take hold of the magic, but they could move us, which in turn moved the magic.

“Now,” I demanded everyone with another pull which threatened to take out my knees.

The magic hit the water as Amory was again revealed. What looked like a black cloud of poison sank into the water.

“Shift, Amory,” Esta encouraged. “Now.”

I shot a shaky hand at the black mass, hurrying to destroy it.

I stumbled back a step, Malachi moving to catch me. I looked to Emric, seeing that he was sweating and tired, but fine.

And as I turned back to Amory, instead of the white-haired woman I had come to love as a friend, I was looking at the largest tiger I had ever seen. Her eyes were the same brown. But unlike most tigers I had seen here, she was purely white. There were no stripes along her skin, just pure white fur.

She gave her fur a shake and stepped a large paw toward me.

“Amory?!” I asked, a smile breaking across my face.

She took another step into the orange water and let out a roar which caused any birds in the area to take flight and sent a shiver down my back.

I felt a scratching sensation as she gave the side of my face a lick.

Salty,she commented to me.

“That was disgusting,” I said honestly, wanting to dry my face immediately.

I hate the water. Hop on, before I get tired,Amory commanded.

I sat on her back and my legs were not even close to touching the ground as she took off, her huge paws eating up the ground. I let out a laugh as we raced through the orange trees and into the area beyond, leaving the others in the dust as they mounted their own shifters. I had no choice but to hold onto the fur at her neck, or else I would go flying off. She was unnaturally fast for as large of a cat as she was.

“You might want to take it easy,” I told her. “Not only are you likely about to pass out, but we have a lurking enemy to worry about.”

Her response was another roar before,I hate that you are right. I just had to run. To feel the breeze along my fur.

“Don’t take this the wrong way,” I laughed, “but you arehuge.”

And?

“And ferocious. Also soft as hell.” I wanted to run my hands back and forth in her fur but was sure that was not appropriate.

You’re not so bad yourself.

She slowed and as soon as she was walking, I hopped off.

“Can you shift back before you pass out on me?” I asked.
