He took a step back, and I wondered for half a moment if she had shifted because of anger, or because she wanted to be able to speak to her father one-on-one.

Regardless, she had shifted back into her dragon form for the first time since being back in her human one.

Before anyone made it to the massive doors, I added, “Any more talk like today, and I will become increasingly moreunhelpful. To be clear, I do not need your money, nor do I need any assistance findingmywife.”

Without another glance, I strode from the room. It turned out I hadn’t needed manpower. I’d had dragon power today.

That nightI sat out on my balcony, keeping an eye on the skies. Malachi stayed with me the rest of the day as we fumed over what had occurred in the war room.

He was as irate as I was.

And I knew Zaire was to blame.

Malachi and I had headed to spar in the same area we’d used before, and using my body and exerting some of the frustration had done wonders for us. Malachi was sporting a sore shoulder, and I had a nick near my ribs.

It had been worth it. Anything to keep me from murdering Esta’s father. Or ex.

I looked up as I heard wings.

Sure enough, there she was, still in her dragon form.

I had no idea, she sent me and Malachi both.

“I know, your face was as stunned as my own likely was,” I offered.

What they did was wrong, she added.I cannot believe they did that to you. Cannot believe you were treated in that way.

“We all know Zaire was likely behind it,” Malachi stated from the chair next to mine. “Zaire or Morana. Maybe both.”

I am sorry, Keir, the queen added.

“Come here,” I demanded.

I just came back from my cave, she explained.I am not staying long.

“That’s fine. Just come here.”

She landed on the edge of my balcony as I demanded.

“So should I go or stay this round, guys?” Malachi asked playfully.

“You can stay. I am going to hug her. Whether it is this form or her other, no matter.”

Ever my moon,Esta added.

I placed a hand on her scales, and I knew she likely couldn’t even feel it, so I allowed my magic to send warmth into my palm. “I would fight a thousand shadows to stay your moon.”

With those words, she went from dragon form back to her human one immediately.

I wrapped my arms around her and said into her hair, “I know it wasn’t your fault. I do not blame you for what happened in the war room today.”

It took her a full minute before she could speak. “They did not even ask Amory. There have been many days I have questioned my pride of Dra Skor, but this one ranks right up there with the worst.”

“Agreed,” Malachi said from behind us.

“Tell me what to do,” she pleaded as she stayed curled into me, squeezing hard.
