I knew that village was to the east of the castle, as many hours as we had poured over the map. We flew west to Keld by the shore, so though I had been in Dra Skor for close to two weeks, I was still far from having seen it all. The canine lake and forest, which they all referred to as “The Pit” was close to Arava. Because the wolves were protective of their territory, it would likely be the last lake we could go near.

“Is that where the advisors also live? Arava?” I asked. I hadn’t given much thought to where everyone in Dra Skor lived. I’d only seen Keld and then the castle itself.

She gave her head a shake. “No. We all live here in the castle. Though some of us prefer to also have homes outside of Halikaara.” She shrugged.

I considered that a moment. I wondered what the queen’s room looked like. How massive it must be to give her the room and space to move around in it. And did she have a bed? Did dragons even like beds?

“So the queen will be present tomorrow?” I asked.

Amory sighed. “Yes, of course.” Her eyes looked down to her feet. “She is struggling with what happened, Keir. And felt awful for accusing you of having a role in it, yet because she is our queen and trying to protect us all, she also felt it was something she had to do.”

I pressed against my jacket pocket which held the ring she had left behind.

Amory continued. “So tomorrow night you will be presented as the man who saved Kian, but please know that every single person who you will come across will also know exactlywhoyou are.” She paused. “Keep your guards close also. Just in case anyone gets any ridiculous ideas.”

I put my hand on my chest. “Worried for my safety?”

She squinted. “It is what friends do, is it not?”

For the next twenty minutes, we wrote another letter to Wylan which Dex, with the help of Malachi, would get to our ship to deliver to Jorah and Krew. We were going to see if Jorah had an interest in coming for a secret trip. Yes, my magic could apparently clear the water, however, the fact that Jorah and my magic could combine was too big of a draw. My gut instinct told me that we were going to need more than just Valanova magic to reverse the effects of the poison. Just like we had needed more than just Krew and me to take down our father. If Jorah and I could get even just one of the lakes clear on her trip done in secret, then I could work on building relationships with the people so that she could come back to help me in a much safer environment.

Yet I hated the fact that we needed her at all. She had more than enough to do in Wylan. I didn’t want to add to that.

“Wait,” I paused. I was about to finish our letter to Jorah and Krew but at the very end added a personal request.

If there is room aboard the ship, could you please send my wave riding board? I could use a piece of home here.

Awaiting your response either way,

Keir

“There. That should do it,” I said with a smirk.

“Malachi will be here shortly to fly your man to the ship,” Amory stated.

I gave Dex a glance. “Do not puke on the horse, Dex.”

“Offended in your lack of faith, My Prince.”

I laughed.

Shortly thereafter, the queen and Malachi landed, Malachi using a trough of water off to the side before he and Dex, with the letter for Krew and Jorah, took off back for our ship.

The queen looked at me and Amory. Now we wait for the response to see if the queen of Wylan wishes to come help her prince.

I tried not to outwardly cringe. I was not Jorah’s prince. Only for a very short time had I ever been. I gave a shrug as I sipped my strong tea. “My king and queen will respond right away. The ship will take two days to get there and two days to get back. That will be the worst part.”

Her eyes went to me, but she didn’t say anything more.

I put my tea down and reached into my jacket as I walked toward her, holding the ring up as soon as I found it. “You forgot something the other night.”

I chose not to take it.

“But I thought you had an appreciation for the pretty things,” I argued.

I do, but I did not deserve it in that moment. She turned her attention back to Amory.Any change in the other water vials?

I slipped the ring back in my pocket as it appeared she wasn’t interested in it today either. And why wasn’t she askingmethis question? I was the one who fixed the other one.
