Emric swatted a hand at me. “Archibald! Get this man some clothes before he makes me blush.”

“Archibald?” I mouthed to Emric as Archer walked to do just that, digging into my closet for my attire.

Emric gave his head a shake. “While you have been off wining and dining the important people, the rest of us have had entirely too much time to spend together.”

Likely why the sea shanty had been learned.

I sat down to eat a bit more, not feeling full yet despite all the food I had shoveled into my mouth, a testament to how close I had truly come to burnout the day before. In between bites, I filled the others in on exactly how we were able to turn the lakes.

“This is fantastic,” John gasped, now pacing. “And you saw the queen’s hand?”

I swallowed. “I did.”

“How was it?” Emric asked.

“She has beautiful hands,” I offered, not sure why that mattered.

Emric flashed me a grin. “Imeant, did it look healthy? Being as it’s been stuck in its shifted form for nine years.”

Oh. Right. “I think so? But it was only there for a flash of a moment.”

John kept pacing. “I wish I knew what they were discussing in that meeting. This sets up a working relationship so well. Well done yesterday, Keir. Well done.”

I stood and grabbed my jacket from the back of the chair. “So let’s go.”

John’s eyes went wide. “You wish to just show up unannounced and uninvited?”

I cocked my head. “We all know they’re talking about the lakes. Talking about us. And likely assume I am still sleeping. Rather than wait for Amory to tell us what they’ve decided, let’s go find out ourselves.”

“But your magicisstill recouping,” John offered.

I gestured with my head toward Emric. “We can bring Emric with us. Sounds like he needs something to do other than learn more sea shanties.”

“Rude,” Emric stated. “But I’m game.”

“Her father does not like you,” John reminded me. “I am not sure this is the best course of action.”

He had a point. Still, I wanted to go to the meeting. And I was a prince. So I was going to use my fancy title and act like one.

I openedthe door to my room, dressed immaculately, and turned to the two Dra Skor guards who kept post outside my room. “Good morning.”

“It is early afternoon,” Emric whispered from behind me.

“Make that afternoon,” I amended. “I understand the queen and her advisors are in a meeting about yesterday. She assumed I would be sleeping most of today to recover, but I was wondering if you could point me in their direction.”

“They are in the war room,” the guard said as he gave me a proper bow. “I can take you.”

Well. That had been far easier than I had thought. I had another line prepared to say about how they were going to want to know my theories on changing the lakes, so it was pertinent I go, but I hadn’t even needed it.

Emric gave me a smile and John fell into step beside me. He hadn’t wanted me to barge in on this meeting, yet missing out on the knowledge we would gain from it had been too big of a lure for him.

We walked for what felt like an hour, and finally were standing before two intricately carved wooden doors. There was a dragon, a horse, a wolf, and a lion on the closed doors in the center.

“Woah,” Emric muttered.

The guard opened one of the doors and stepped inside. “The Wylan ambassadors are here,” he started, but knowing that Esta’s ass of a father would likely just send us away, I first gave Emric a playful glance and then stepped into the room, sliding around the guard.
