Not wanting to push her any further, we headed back to the castle. For all intents and purposes, the day was a success. We had another lake turned back. But it was becoming clear the lakes were the easy part. What was it going to take to set the shifters free?
CHAPTER25
“Pffffft.”
I felt a wind on my face but refused to rouse. Today was not the day we were heading to The Aaruk to work on changing that lake back, it was tomorrow. So I needed more sleep. Whatever was waking me could wait.
“Pffffft.”Wake up, Prince Keir.
I opened an eye to find a very gray and very massive horse towering over me. If Esta didn’t sleep on my balcony, Malachi did. He’d even had some hay delivered last night. He and Miles had been out on my balcony chatting away when I fell asleep last night.
“What?”
In honor of you changing our lakes back, I was wondering if you’d like to do something... fun.
I groaned and tucked the pillow in closer. “What kind of fun?”
I believe you call it wave riding?
That had my eyes snapping open.
I will take you to the shore. I already told Muscles we were going on an adventure and he’s ready. Kian has been storing your board. I must confess I know nothing of the sport, but I am intrigued.
I heaved myself up. “That is the only thing you could have possibly lured me out of bed for.”
Well let’s go then.
At the last minute, not wanting to use my magic to warm me the entire way, wanting to save it for the waves instead, I grabbed a hooded sweatshirt. It was far more casual than anything I was allowed to wear in Wylan, but it was a brisk morning, so I was thankful for it.
By the time we landed, I was warm from the rising sun and feeling excited. I hadn’t wave ridden in far too long. Malachi landed us right next to Kian, who very gently held the wave board in his mouth and tilted it back and forth.
“Good morning, old friend,” I grinned. “Thank you for keeping that safe for me.”
Was the least I could do,he responded.
“Where did you store it?” I asked. “Should I want to use it again.”
With his hoard,Malachi sent to me seeming quite amused.So you’ll have to ask him the next time you’d like to use it.
I wondered where the land dragons kept their hoards, but knew it was a...sensitivetopic to the dragons. It didn’t really matter where he put it if I knew it was safe. “I can think of no one more responsible.”
Rude,Savanna sent me, I whipped my head around trying to find her.
She’s already gone out for breakfast,Kian responded.
Kian and Malachi just stood there looking at me for a moment. Dex already knew about my wave riding obsession, so he looked unbothered, unlike the other two.
“What?”
Is there not a paddle?Malachi asked.We have similar boards here with a paddle to move you.
I shot him a grin. “I’ll just show you. I do not need a paddle. Not for wave riding. And particularly not because I am Enchanted.”
Very well then,Kian said with an excited sort of noise coming out of his throat. Let’s commence.
I began stripping down and kept going until I was left only in my compression boxers. Shorts was what I went wave riding in at home. So this only felt natural.
Thought for a minute you did this naked,Malachi commented as he waited.
