I don’t like the tinges of fear that I hear in her voice.

“Only if you want me to, and I will make sure that you enjoy it,” I respond honestly.

“I don’t understand any of this. I need to call work and beg for them not to fire me for leaving my job in the middle of a shift.”

“I’ve already taken care of it.”

Her face floods with relief. “Thank god. I can’t afford to lose that job.”

“Angel, you aren’t working at that bar anymore.”

“But you said they weren’t firing me. I can’t lose that job. I need the money.”

I reach up and grab hold of her chin, turning her face so I can look into her eyes. “You won’t be fired, but I won’t have my woman working in a place like that. You are quitting. My decision is final after seeing you assaulted last night. Besides, you don’t need the money anymore. You are a rich woman.”

Staring at me in disbelief, Everly breaks out in a laugh. “Rich? Do you think if I were rich, I would sleep in a dark alley on the cold pavement? You really are crazy.”

“I might be, but as my wife, you are a very wealthy woman.” As the words leave my mouth, I look down and notice that her hands are bare. Her ring is not where I left it. This pisses me off. She needs to have that ring on her.

“Where the fuck is your ring?”

“I took it off when your mom and I were making meatballs. Besides, it’s not mine, and it’s a monstrous and gaudy ring. I can’t imagine how much it costs and if I were to lose it, I couldn’t possibly pay you back. Worse, what if someone robs me of that thing?”

The entire time that we’ve been talking, I’ve been steadily bringing food to Everly’s mouth, and she has been taking it. Complaining that she is full, I lay the fork down on the table. She doesn’t notice the anger protruding from my soul. That ring was never to leave her finger.

I grab a bottle of water from the fridge. I know exactly what I need to do.

I silently stand and hold out my hand. She hesitantly takes it. Maybe she senses that now is not the time to reject me. I guess that’s progress. Leading her up to our room, we walk into the bathroom, and I turn the shower on to a comfortable temperature.

“Strip.”

“I’m not taking a shower with you.”

She’s obviously appalled at the thought, but I have news for her. I don’t care. She’s mine. I own her, and I always get what I want. She doesn’t know that I’ve already seen her body uncovered and even touched it. Now is not the time to tell her. I can’t help but smirk.

Everly

Iallow Gio to lead me up to his room and, before I notice what’s happening, into the bathroom. I was so inside my head and stunned by the things that he’s told me I didn’t protest. I’m definitely losing my feminist card. I should be kicking and screaming, but for some reason, when he takes control, it makes me feel safe and cared for. None of this makes sense, and yet, watching him while he starts the shower, I am captivated by his beauty. He is the most handsome man I’ve ever seen, even if he is insane.

I’m confused and shocked but not afraid of him. Even when he came home earlier with blood spatter on his clothes, I didn’t feel like I was in any danger. Seeing it scared me, but for whoever was the target of this wrath. His mother didn’t seem to even notice.

Who wears a business suit but comes home with blood on their clothes? He has to be involved in some kind of criminal behavior. I grew up around men who were petty criminals, but they didn’t dress in expensive clothes or live in mansions like this one.

I’m startled when Gio commands me to undress.

“Strip.”

“I’m not taking a shower with you.”

“You can, and you are.” He doesn’t say this with anger, but just like it’s a foregone conclusion.

I know that if he wanted to hurt me, he already would have. I decide to pick my battles and remove my shirt. I feel his eyes on me as I remove my pants. All I have left are my bra and panties.

“Keep going, Angel.”

His eyes are hungry, and his jaw is clenched as he removes his own clothes. He’s standing naked in front of me, and his cock is standing at attention. It’s large and angry-looking, with veins running along it. He’s hard, and I can feel his need through his stare. It’s not the creepy feeling that I get from my dad’s buddies.

When Gio looks at me, I feel powerful that a man this gorgeous would look at me like I was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
