JoJo slapped at the alarm buzzing and finally got it to turn off. She rolled onto her back and sighed.

“There is no way, absolutely, positively,no way, it’s Monday already,” she grumbled.

Throwing off the blankets with a heavy sigh, she got out of bed and stumbled to the bathroom. She couldn’t believe she was up this early, but Sloane had errands to run, and the places she needed to go weren’t even open when she opened in the mornings. Since Nancy was only part-time for a while, she didn’t go into the shop until eight. She sometimes opened up before she got sick, but she needed to rest until she was better.

The opening part didn’t bother JoJo. It was getting up at this ungodly hour, so she could prepare things for when the bakery opened.

Sloane could make anything, and she designed fabulous wedding cakes. Sweet Nothings did exceptionally well.

JoJo reached into the shower stall, turned the water on, then stripped off her PJs. She opened the curtain, stepped inside, and hissed in a breath.

“Shit! Too cold! Too cold,” she said as her teeth chattered, and she turned the handle closer to hot. She sighed when the hot water hit her chilled skin.

“If you were more awake, you would have known to check the temperature of the waterbeforeyou stepped inside.”

She washed her hair, then her body. Sliding the curtain back, she reached for one of the fluffy pink towels, wrapped it around her wet hair, and then got another to dry off with.

An hour later, she left her apartment, locked the door behind her, and headed for her SUV. Connie opened at five in the morning, and it was always crowded. The only place open when she reached town was the Clifton Diner. That place had fantastic food.

She pulled around the back of the bakery, parked, then walked around to the front. She inserted her key but stopped when she saw lights on in the kitchen.

“Nancy, you better be home in bed and not here wearing yourself out.”

JoJo entered the shop, closed the door, and locked it, then walked to the kitchen. She gasped when she saw Courtney putting the icing on the cupcakes.

“Courtney,” she said, but she didn’t turn around, so JoJo walked up behind her and touched her shoulder, making Courtney scream. She turned to face her and squirted icing all over the front of her.

“Oh, my God! JoJo, I am so sorry, but you scared me.”

“Didn’t you know I was supposed to open?”

“I did. I didn’t realize what time it was, and I didn’t hear you because I had my earbuds in.” Courtney removed the buds from her ears and held them up for JoJo to see.

“I’m so glad you’re back, but now I have to go home and change my shirt.”

“It’s too far. Let me call Nevada, and I’ll have him bring you one of my shirts on his way to work.”

“Okay. If you’re sure he won’t mind.”

“I’ll whisper something dirty in his ear. He’ll do anything when I do that,” Courtney said with a grin.

“Just don’t let me hear it. Any T-shirt will work.”

“All right. I’ll call him now.”

“Is he up?”

“He was before I left the bed.” Courtney winked.

“I can tell you’re feeling better.”

Courtney laughed. “I love my man.”

“Who could blame you? He’s not only handsome, but nice.”

“He is. Oh, it’s ringing. I’ll be right back.”

JoJo watched her enter the pantry so she could talk to Nevada privately. When JoJo heard her laughing, she grinned. Courtney was so happy with Nevada, and JoJo didn’t think many women wouldn’t be.
