“Alexander Reeves.”

“Yes, Agent Reeves is an agent here. I can see if he’s been assigned to your case to set your mind at ease.”

“I’d appreciate that so much.”

“Sure. Give me a second. Please hold.”

Dylan nodded, although the woman couldn’t see her. She waited patiently for a few minutes, and the woman returned to the line.

“Ma’am? Agent Reeves is assigned to your case. I called him and spoke with him.”

“Okay. Thank you so much. I just wanted to be sure.”

“As you should be. Was there anything else?”

“No. Thank you.” Dylan disconnected and set her phone on the desk.

That made her feel better. As Marlowe had said, it could have been someone who stole the vest, and the badge could have been fake. Rustlers weren’t stupid when getting what they wanted.

She wondered if Agent Reeves would keep her in the loop as he said. She was sure he had other cases to attend to but wanted those thieves caught.

She placed her hands over her face and tried to hold the tears back, but no one liked being violated, no matter what type of violation it was.

“Dylan?”

She placed her hands on the desk and looked to the doorway to see her manager standing there.

“Hey, Justin.”

“Are you okay?”

“Yes. No. I’m so upset about Toga.”

Justin sighed, entered the office, and took a seat opposite the desk.

“I’m sure you are. Did MDOL show up?”

“Yes. He said he doubted I’d get Toga back. I am so pissed.”

“I know. He’s a proven breeder. It will be damn hard to find a replacement. The other bulls are good, but they’re still young. If we don’t get Toga back, we’ll have to find another bull.”

“I know, but that’s hard to do. Most ranchers or breeders don’t want to part with a proven breeder. Dad had difficulty finding Toga, and now he’s been stolen. My dad would have a fit.”

“Your dad would understand. We all do. It happens, Dylan. I’m sure the livestock agent will do what he can.”

“You’re right, but I will look into buying another top breeder as much as I hate the idea.”

“Okay. Let me know if you need help.” He stood. “I need to get back to work. I’ll talk to you soon. Let me know what you find out.”

“I will, Justin. Thank you.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He left the room.

Dylan stared out the window, wondering what she would do if her bull wasn’t recovered, and she had trouble finding another good breeder. All she knew was she wouldn’t go down without a fight. Her father trusted her to run this ranch, and she would. No matter what.

Chapter Two

The following day, Alex arrived at the office, entered the building, and strode to his desk. He pulled the chair out, removed his hat and coat, then sat. He turned on the computer and inserted the SD card to look at the tire photos.
