Danny shook his head. “No, I just can’t. That town is ruined for me and Breanna. I’ll get a place out here and try to find a job that will pay enough for us to live on. We’ll stay here.”

“What do you do for a living son?” Sam asked.

Danny looked over at Sam. “I’m a mechanic sir.”

Sam snorted as he grinned at Melora. “You any good?”

Danny shrugged. “My old boss thought so. He gave me every chance he could until a couple of weeks ago when Rylan started bugging me at work and he had to let me go. He didn’t want any trouble with the Minions and I couldn’t blame him.”

Boss snorted. “The Minions are the lowest club in the nation. They would kill you just as soon as look at you.”

“You work on bikes or cars?” Sam asked.

Danny grinned. “Mostly vehicles but I can work on both.”

Melora chuckled. “Well, my dad and his brothers build custom hot rods and Sam works in the bike shop, so we should be able to find you a job.”

Danny shook his head. “Well, until I start fixing cars or bikes, I’m not counting on anything really. I’ve still got to find daycare for Breanna and a place to live.”

“Well, I got a place for you to stay and I’m sure we can find someone to watch Breanna, so I think you’re all set up,” Sam stated softly. “Deke’s wife has a place where Breanna will be well cared for and you won’t have to worry. Not about that anyway. Then I have a house that...” He turned to look at Melora. “...I don’t think I’ll be staying at anymore.”

She nodded and gripped his hand tightly.

Danny raised his eyebrows in surprise and said, “Just like that? I’m all set up?”

Sam nodded. “If you’re half the man my woman thinks you are, you’ll grab hold of the brass ring and take off like a shot. Sometimes, all we need kid, is a chance. You didn’t have that back in Chicago, but you’ll get that here if you want it.”

Danny smiled and held out his hand to Sam. “Thank you, man.”

Boss let out a heavy sigh as he shook his head. “I guess when we fuck up, we really fuck up. We should have given you a chance years ago, but we just didn’t. That’s on us, but we’d like to mend those fences, if you’ll let us. Like you said earlier, we are Breanna’s uncles.”

Danny lowered his head for a moment then looked up at them all. “You can be her uncles, but we’re staying here. If you want to come here and see her grow up, I won’t deny you that. But if you hurt her, you’ll never see her again. Your sister, her own mother walked out on her a long time ago and I can’t forget or forgive her for that. Rylan won’t ever see her again and if you can live with that, then you’re welcome to get to know Breanna. It will be here where you see her. I no longer have ties in Chicago and you’ll have to respect that.”

“We’ll find a place to stay tonight and meet her tomorrow before we head back,” Taker told him. “I’d like to meet her and get to know her.”

Danny smiled sadly. “She’s sweet but stubborn to a fault.”

Melora burst into laughter, “She’s her father’s daughter then. You used to be pretty stubborn when I knew you.”

Danny frowned. “I was?”

“Oh yeah, you were. You made up your mind and nobody or nothing could change it.” Melora nodded her head.

Sam chuckled. “That was just his genre babe, most boys turning into a man are like that.”

Boss chuckled. “That’s true enough. When we hit a certain age, we think we know everything.”

Sam stood from the couch.“If you boys need a place to stay tonight, you can sleep at my other place. That’s where Danny and Breanna are moving to in a few days, so you can stay there tonight.”

The brothers nodded.

“That works for me.” Taker got to his feet and reached his hand out to Danny. “We’ll be here in the morning to finally meet your daughter.”

Danny stood to shake their hands. “We’ll be here.”

Sam slipped them his keys and gave them the address. He watched as they filed out the front door and then he stepped over to close it behind them.
