“Oh my gosh, this is so much better!” she exclaimed tearfully. “You… we… we’re having cheesecake for our wedding cake?”

“And I promise not to shove it in your face,” he smiled.

“Daddy, you know I like cheese,” Beau chimed in, looking at Deacon, “Why have we not made a cheesecake before at home.”

“It’s not real cheese, buddy. It’s cream cheese.”

“Cream is milk. Milk makes cheese. I don’t understand…”

“This is all true – but we’ll talk about it in a bit.”

This amazing man had a massive cheesecake arranged to be here for her? For their wedding?

She looked at the cake, and it had massive swirls of frosting and sprinkles, and you could both taste and smell the decadent aroma coming off of the thing in waves. There were probably nearly a hundred-thousand calories sitting on that platter – and she was ready for them!

“Then you’d just have to find a way to get it off of me,” she whispered invitingly, looking at him and realizing that he truly would do anything for her… and she would for him, too. This is what love was – putting the other person first and giving them what they loved.

“Well, then, I suppose that Iamshoving…” Jake uttered baldly, his eyes widening as he scrambled to pick up the cake, causing Lena to burst out laughing in delight as the four men stood up in a panic.

“Put it down, Ortega,” Logan, Houghton, Max, and Gideon, said in unison as Houghton continued. “And cut the cake with your bride so we can get some photos to share with the team back in Ghazni, you’ll have a memento to share together on your anniversary, and we can all have a piece because it looks divine.”

“Shall we?” Jake said, holding out his hand, and Lena stood.

They both put their hands on the knife, and she felt him kiss her cheek as he whispered ‘love you’ gently to her. As they set the knife on the cake, they made the first cut, and she couldn’t help but smile. It was super thick, and this was going to be such a delicious thing.

“Every anniversary, we’ll have cheesecake,” she whispered, smiling at him.

“How big of a piece do you want, Lumberjack?”

“Are we sharing?” Lena asked,

“We’ll share,” he smiled.

“You want just one bite?”

“Is that how you define sharing?”

Smiling, they both heard a few questions around them as they paused. He moved the knife slightly, and she shook her head. He moved it again, and she said no again silently, chuckling. He moved the knife once more, both of them laughing at the massive slice – and cut.

“Why does he call my sister ‘Lumberjack’?”

“Cause he’s not right in the head?”

“Why are they dawdling?”

“The rest of us like cheesecake too, ya’ know…”

“Daddy, can I have a slice of cheesecake as big as Aunt Lena’s?”

“No, buddy… it will make your tummy hurt to have that much cheesecake.”

LENA

Today had been perfect.

She couldn’t have imagined anything more wonderful than sharing their moment with friends and family, feeling the love and support around her, and knowing that she had the best person at her side.
