Wyattsaid, “Ican’t afford to take a break.Wewant to have the house ready for you to move in.”

Loureached up, put a hand onWyatt’sshoulder. “Ithink you’ll want to hear this, son.”

Thelook onLou’sface told him something big was coming down the pike. “Okay, let me tell the guys what needs to happen andI’llmeet you on the patio in ten.”

GaylepassedWyatton her way to the manicured back garden, hoping her hunch was right on target.

“Sorryit took me a few extra minutes to get back here,”Wyattsaid, notingLouwas alone on the patio.

Acool breeze blew through the surrounding evergreens, causing the landscaped flowers to rustle.

Thegardener had done a phenomenal job.BrightorangeOrientalpoppies and fuchsia peonies, so large they looked fake, edged a spacious, emerald, weed-free lawn.

Louwaved off the apology.

“Where’sGayle?”Wyattasked.

Loupointed to the back of the property, past the perfectly manicured shrubs. “Shehad an epiphany of sorts.Sheran off to make a phone call.”

Lou’sexpression was dreamy.

“Letme guess,”Wyattsaid, smiling. “YouandGayle. . .”

Loubrightened like an incandescent bulb. “Rememberthat big regretItold you about?”

Wyattlifted a brow. “Gayleis the one that got away?”
