“It’s nice to meet you in person. You look so much like Nate, or he looks like you.” Nate nodded, hugging the young woman, kissing the top of her head.

“I will owe you a debt for my entire life. I have twin sons, but that doesn’t mean that one is expendable. Thank you, Harlow.”

“It was no trouble. He saved me first, after all.” She smiled up at Nate. Looking back at the bedroom, she pointed to her suitcase. “I don’t have much. Just one suitcase and it’s packed. Can we bring Fritz? He’s been wonderful, although I did overhear that he let you in for the price of a steak bone.”

“He’s a good dog, and believe me, he didn’t have an option when Mama Irene asked him nicely to let us in.” Harlow looked confused but nodded at him.

“Let’s go,” said Nathan.

“How are we getting out of here?” asked Harlow. The men all smiled at her.

“Trust us,” said Tanner. “We have our ways.”

It was still raining, but the wind had calmed. It was cold outside, but Nate had her wrapped up and beneath his arm, protecting her with his body. She wasn’t sure where they were going, but they walked down the narrow road leading from her cottage toward an open field.

“We’re taking that?” she asked.

“Yep. One of the best helicopters in the world,” smiled Nathan.

“I don’t think I can do this,” said Harlow. “I mean, I hate flying in a big airplane, but that! That’s a death trap!”

“Honey, I promise it’s safe. We can give you something to relax you if you want,” said Nathan. Harlow looked absolutely terrified until Savannah came to the door smiling at her.

“Hi, sweetie. I’ve got a seat for you right next to me.” Harlow took the beautiful woman’s hand, stepping into the big helicopter. Still wrapped in the warm blanket, she sat where Savannah told her and allowed the woman to buckle her in.

Nate grinned at Savannah, blowing her a kiss then took his seat.

“Alright,” said Savannah, “you just watch me, and I’m going to explain everything. You can hear me, and I can hear you, so ask any questions you need to. Okay?”

“O-okay,” she nodded. Already chattering away in the front seat, Nate looked at his father and the others.

“What’s the deal with Morrison?” he asked.

“We’re still digging, but Morrison is scheduled to hear two cases that are coming before the Supreme Court soon. One is to restrict licensing for weapons in all states, taking the individual states’ right to do so away. They’ll lose that. The other justices are too far right to let that pass.”

“And the other?” asked Nate.

“The other is definitely about us,” said Mo. “It’s the lawsuit that was brought up with Rider Armament.”

“The faulty weapons?” frowned Nate. “How does that have anything to do with us?”

“The lawsuit wants to ban all manufacturing of weapons by companies other than those run by the government,” said Mo. Nate glowered at Mo, then stared at Irish, Nathan, and Tanner.

“He wants G.R.I.P.”

“Yep. He either wants it or wants to shut it down. That’s what we’re trying to figure out,” said Tanner. “Nate, we think Harlow’s father is driving a lot of this. If he finds out that she’s connected to a man who works with the G.R.I.P. team, this could get ugly for both of you.”

“It’s already ugly for both of us, brother. The things they did to her, made her do, are unforgivable. She doesn’t want a relationship with them, and I damn sure don’t. Right now, all I want to do is keep her safe. We’ll figure out how to manage Morrison.”

“Do you have to go back to the teams?” asked Nathan.

“Mike is putting in for his retirement and having them send my papers also. I’ve spoken to my commander, and he agrees. It’s time.” Nate looked at his father and could see the relief in his expression. It was subtle, but it was there. “I know you worry, Dad. I know Mom worries. But Mike and I have been a great team. We just don’t want to push our luck any longer.”

“I know. Joseph and I went through the same thing,” said Nathan, giving a knowing smirk. “The only difference was I couldn’t see it on my father’s face. He was better at hiding his expressions than I am.” Nate nodded, grinning at his father.

“So, what’s the plan?”
