“I hear that buzzing again,” she said. “And I haven’t been wearing my earbuds.”

“The music?” I shrugged. “The drinking?”

“I’m not drunk, Saint.”Thank fuck.“And the music wasn’t even that loud.”

“What does it sound like? I mean, I know you said it’s a buzzing noise, but like a bee?” I started glancing around. “Maybe one got trapped in here.”

She looked pensive. “Well, there are a lot of flowers on the property.”

I strained to hear anything that resembled a buzzing sound, but I couldn’t hear shit. I also looked for any kind of insects, because flies also buzzed when in flight. Deciding to just check the entire room, I searched the closet, bathroom, and even the kitchenette area. Still, I found nothing. I heard nothing but my feet on the floor. Even when they hit the carpet, the room was quiet as a tomb.

“Baby, I don’t hear or see anything,” I finally told her as I looked over her way.

“I’m not making it up, Saint.”

“I’m not saying that you are,” I replied evenly. “I’m just saying thatIcan’t hear any buzzing.”

“You know, at first, I was joking about this place being the perfect backdrop to a horror movie, but now…”

I quickly made my way back to stand in front of her. Reaching out, I placed my hands on her arms, then began rubbing them up and down. “Whoa, hey…slow down,” I rushed out. “Relax a bit.”

“I just…I’m starting to get a bad vibe,” she said as she began gnawing her lower lip.

“When did you start to feel it?”

“When Marilyn started feeling offended at everything that Lulee said,” she admitted.

“Yeah, that was…uncomfortable,” I agreed.

“And I get that it’s just…different generations and all, but then…” She shook her head. “What is that shit out there? I mean, what are the odds that two…exhibitionists would book this place for spring break?” My lips twitched. “This isn’t funny, Saint.”

“Of course, not.”

“I mean it, Saint,” she said sternly, her lips pressed tightly together.

“No, you’re right,” I replied softly. “It’s not funny.”

Verity rolled her eyes before letting out a soft chuckle. “This is so messed up.”

“It could be worse,” I offered.

“How?”

“They could have been seventy-year-old exhibitionists.”

“Okay, on that note, I’m going to go take a shower,” she drawled out.

“Do you always shower at night?”

Verity shook her head. “I usually shower in the morning to help kickstart my day, but it’s been a long…everything.” I nodded in understanding. “I just need to wash…the day off me.”

“Well, I usually shower at night,” I told her. “So, if you could save me some hot water, I’d really appreciate it.”

She shot me a saucy look. “I’ll see what I can do.”

“I’ll make you a deal.”

“I’m listening.”
