“Positive.” She forced a stiff smile to her lips. “I’ll see you later.”

Peri scurried down the hall and across the lobby. She caught a brief glimpse of the male receptionist, who regarded her with a resentful frown, and she sent him a finger wave as she hurried past him, but didn’t pause to enjoy his annoyance.

The sooner she could get the shard back to the Witch’s Brew, the safer everyone would be.

Elias breathed a harsh sigh of relief as he caught sight of the dark-haired mage exiting the brownstone and heading down the sidewalk with long strides. He’d been waiting for the bitch to come out for what felt like an eternity. He was hot, sticky, and in the mood to hurt someone.

No, not someone.

Only the mage who’d caused him endless pain and humiliation for the past forty-eight hours was going to sate his thirst for violence.

That was why he’d waited outside the Witch’s Brew after paying an outrageous sum to have the curse removed. He’d known she would eventually make an appearance. And why he’d followed her to the city. He couldn’t believe his luck. Once they were in the Gyre he’d have his full powers.

Of course, at the time he didn’t realize she was headed to the Warehouse. A pain in the ass. He hadn’t dared to follow her inside, not when there was the possibility that Aston would bethere. Which meant he was stuck waiting in the sweltering heat for her to indulge her fetishes.

Now the sweat dripping from his face as he followed behind her only amped his seething fury. She’d had her fun, now it was time for him to have his.

Waiting until she was passing by an opening between two buildings, Elias rushed forward, slamming her into the narrow alley. She lurched forward, but she didn’t fall on her face as he’d hoped. Instead she smoothly turned to face him, a slow smile curving her lips.

“Elias, what a lovely surprise.” Her gaze made a slow inventory of the stained gym clothes he’d been wearing for the past two days. Nothing else would fit over his engorged balls. “How’s the nether regions? All better?”

His demon blood boiled with a craving for revenge. “You’re going to pay for what you did to me.”

She blinked, pretending to be confused by his threat. “I’ve already been paid, remember?”

Elias hissed. “You and your bitch club think you’re so clever.”

“Bitch club?” The woman abruptly laughed, as if she’d never heard anything so funny. “Oh, Elias, that’s not the insult you think it is.”

“I think you’re nothing more than a witch on steroids.” He spit at her feet. “A human.”

“Okay.”

“I hate humans.”

“That’s not what your wife said,” she taunted.

Elias’s gut twisted as her words scraped against his raw wounds. After he’d left Neverland, he’d been prepared for the mortifying pain from the curse. He’d even expected his wife to spend the weekend harping at him until he dreamed about throttling her thick neck.

What he hadn’t expected was for her to arrive at their expensive townhouse and immediately pack his bags. In less than an hour he’d been tossed out the door along with his belongings. And there hadn’t been a damned thing he could do about it. The house belonged to his wife’s family, along with the cottage in the Hamptons and the cabin in Vail. His only property was his Porsche and the tiny apartment he kept for his private entertainments.

The apartment was better than sleeping in the streets. But not much.

“She left me.” Elias prowled forward, his hands clenched into fists. “And it’s all your fault.”

“My fault?” The mage stood her ground.

Elias frowned, his steps slowing. Why wasn’t she afraid? Did she think she had enough magic to fight against a demon in the Gyre? Or did she have some sort of nasty curse prepared to throw at him?

“You went to Neverland to trick me,” he accused.

“I didn’t do anything but show up. The rest was all you.”

Elias ground his teeth. That was the same thing his wife had said. As if any male didn’t need the excitement of chasing and bagging his prey. Or in his case, bedding his prey. He was doing what he’d been created to do. Spreading his seed far and wide.

“It was a trap.”
