Which also meant a painstakingly thorough blow dry before I even began to curl my hair.

And that brought us to now.

Me—inside, with half a head of fantastic waves.

Nick—outside, waiting in his car.

Each time he texted, I replied with, “Okay.” And that was all.

I bit my lip and willed my cheap curling iron to get hotter so I could hurry up.

Ten minutes and another quarter of my head curled later—behind me I heard, “I’ve been trying to call you.”

My head swiveled toward the doorway so quickly that it hurt. “Oh my gosh, you scared me,” I said, setting the curling iron down on the bathroom vanity. Then I peered at my phone and saw three missed calls on the screen.

Oops.

“Sorry, my music was too loud and I’m trying to hurry,” I said, looking into the mirror at his reflection. He was dressed in a mouth-watering, dark blue suit. I loved how he’d paired it with a crisp, white shirt underneath.

“Langcaster said you haven’t been down to eat yet?” Nick said, his voice low and nearly strangled sounding.

I turned around to him and said, “No time. I got right into the shower after you called.”

His eyes trailed down my face to my chest—lingering there for a while. Hopefully he was appreciating my yellow bra and panty set. When his gaze fell further down my stomach to the “V” between my legs, I felt myself get instantly wet.

Just from him looking at me.

“Come here, Cherry,” he demanded, and I did exactly that—without hesitation.

Barefoot, I was much shorter than him, and my neck crooked up to see his handsome face. Standing just a foot away from him, I waited for his next direction. I could smell his spicy, manly cologne and it made me clench my thighs together.

“Whenever we’ve been apart, and you see me again,” he said, his breath wafting over my face, “I want you to come directly to me.”

I smiled up at him and nodded. “Okay, I’m sorry, Nick. I should have done that without you telling me.”

He let out a sigh. “There’s nothing to be sorry about. We haven’t had time to discuss certain things, yet. You come to me and kiss me. Anytime one of us has been away.”

“I can do that,” I said, my smile widening while I stood on my tiptoes. Slowly, I allowed my hands to slide up the front of his coat, feeling the delicious, soft material under my fingertips. Then I clasped my hands behind his neck as he leaned forward.

My lips touched his sweetly, at first.

But when my tongue teased at his lower lip, Nick’s tongue darted out and swept inside my mouth. His arms circled me as he pulled me close.

Truth be told, I wasn’t a huge fan of kissing.

I’d had boyfriends before, so it wasn’t like I was inexperienced, or I didn’t know what to do. I just had never been a big fan of making out.

The way Nick kissed, though?

He had it down to an art form.

I swear I felt a zinging sensation from my lips all the way to the tips of my toes.

He could make me ache from one kiss.

Like he was currently doing at the moment.

“You taste lovely, as always,” he said between kisses and that only made me press myself harder against him. “Finish your hair and change. I’ll wait.” Regrettably, he let go of me and stepped away.
