The tension inside me coils tighter, threatening to snap as Hudson’s tongue works wonders. My heart races, and my fingertips tingle with anticipation. I bite down on my wrist, suppressing the moan that threatens to escape. I don’t dare make a sound, not with everyone in the other room.

“Harper,” Hudson whispers, his breath hot against my skin. I can feel him smirking, reveling in the control he has over me right now.

“Please,” I gasp, unable to form complete sentences. The world narrows down to this moment, our bodies entwined behind the kitchen island.

“Shh,” he murmurs, his voice a soothing balm as he gently urges me onward. “Let go.”

And just like that, I do. My climax crashes over me, sudden and intense, leaving me breathless and trembling. I cling to Hudson for support, biting down harder on my wrist to keep from crying out.

“God, Harper,” he breathes, his eyes dark with desire as he cleans me up with sensual, languid sweeps of his tongue. The sensation sends shivers down my spine, making me quiver.

“Thank you,” I whisper, overwhelmed by the intensity of what just happened.

“Anytime,” he replies, grinning wickedly. Gently, he readjusts my clothing, leaving no trace of our secret encounter. As he stands up, he presses a tender kiss to my cheek, a stark contrast to the passion we just shared.

“Think we should join the others?” I ask, trying to regain my composure.

“Sure, but first…” Hudson winks and points to the counter where the marshmallows are resting. “Extra marshmallows, remember?”

Right, can’t forget the marshmallows.

HUDSON

The soft glow of the Christmas tree casts a warm light across the living room. Harper’s head rests on my shoulder as she sleeps, her chest rising and falling with each steady breath. On the other side of me, the kids lie snuggled up close, their faces the picture of contentment as they dream.

Antonio and Benedict went up to bed earlier, so it’s just us four left in the living room, and it’s nice having Harper to myself. I’ve come around to the fact that I’ll be sharing her, but still…

I can’t help but smile at this perfect moment, feeling like I’ve finally found the missing piece to a puzzle I never even knew was incomplete.

A soft sigh escapes Harper’s lips as her eyes flutter open, locking onto mine with a curious glint. “You’re still awake? What are you thinking about?” she asks, her voice barely above a whisper.

My heart races as I search for the right words, not wanting to break the spell that’s been cast over us. “I never thought I’d have this kind of life,” I admit, my gaze drifting to each of them in turn. “I always imagined I’d be playing the field until my hip went out or something, and then I’d settle for a trophy wife.”

The laughter that escapes Harper’s lips warms my heart, and I can’t help but smile even wider. “So, what do you want now, Hudson?” she asks playfully, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

I hesitate for a moment, caught off guard by the question. My desires have shifted so drastically since meeting Harper, and trying to put them into words feels like attempting to catch lightning in a bottle. “I want this,” I finally say, gesturing to our current situation—the kids nestled between us, Harper’s warmth beside me. “And more.”

“More?” she prompts, raising an eyebrow inquisitively.

“There’s something I never told you about my past, never told anyone.” Her gaze remains steady, encouraging me to continue. “Years ago, I was with someone named Georgia. We were young and reckless, and we thought we had everything figured out.”

A wistful smile curls at the corner of my lips as I remember those days, but it quickly vanishes as the memories darken. “We found out she was pregnant, and I was…scared, excited, happy, all at once, you know? My parents weren’t thrilled. We were still in high school.”

“High school?” she repeats.

I nod. “But then, when our child was born…” I trail off, struggling to find the words to convey the distressing realization that had hit me like a ton of bricks back then. “He didn’t look like me at all. Not even a little,” I finally manage to say, my voice shaking with the weight of the recollection.

“That’s terrible.”

I take a deep breath before continuing my story. “The truth came out eventually, of course. Georgia had cheated on me,” I confess, feeling the sting of betrayal even now. “And the real kick in the gut was finding out that I’m sterile. I can’t have children, Harper.”

My hands clench into fists as I let those words sink in. It still hurts to say it out loud, but Harper deserves to know the whole truth.

“God, Hudson, I’m so sorry,” she murmurs, her eyes brimming with tears. She reaches out and gently places a hand on my arm, squeezing it in a gesture of comfort. “That’s…that’s just awful. No one should have to go through something like that.”

“Harper,” I begin, my voice soft and vulnerable, “after what happened with Georgia, I gave up on the idea of ever settling down and having a family. I thought there was no point in hoping for something that could never be.”
