“Eli,” I pleaded, “I can’t stand up anymore.”

He chuckled and slid down his pants. “I’ve got you.” He held me under my ass and slid his hard cock into my soaked pussy. We moaned at the same time. “Shit, you feel so good, Katie.”

“More, Eli. Please. I need to feel you.” My voice was hoarse and desperate.

His hips pumped into mine. “I’m so close. Rub your clit, baby. Come on my cock.”

I reached a hand between us to rub my clit. His mouth found mine, swallowing my moans as my second orgasm came on, wracking my body with bliss. I gripped his ass cheeks, digging my nails into his flesh as his movements became jerky with his orgasm.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck!” he grunted into my shoulder as he emptied himself into me.

My mom came and picked Wyatt up for a while so we could talk with Mason and Elle without the antics of a four-year-old underfoot. I wanted to vomit. Mason had already told Elle, and now we just had to discuss logistics.

They sat down at my kitchen table in uncomfortable silence for a few minutes before I couldn’t take it anymore and burst into tears. “I’m so sorry I lied to you, Elle. I’m a horrible sister. I slept with your…”—I moved my hand up and down toward Mason— “Mason, and then hid the fact he was the father of my baby.”

Eli put a hand on my leg, and I leaned into him, sobbing. I do not deserve this man.

“I’m not mad, Cee. Shocked and a little upset that you felt you couldn’t tell me, but I’m not mad. I’m sorry you had to hide so much more than I realized. Let’s just talk about how you want to unravel this.” My sister sat at the table, her face not giving any kind of emotion away.

I didn’t know how she did this—distanced herself emotionally to remain composed, but it was pissing me off a bit. I wanted to know how she actually felt.

Taking a deep breath to calm myself, I responded. “I’m not the political mastermind here. You throw out what you think is best, and I’ll consider it.” I tried to put on an indifferent face to match hers, but I knew my annoyance with her was shining through.

Everyone looked at Elle for her thoughts. “This isn’t my story to tell, but I think we just let it happen. We will take Wyatt out and about and someone will speculate. As far as anyone is concerned, we weren’t hiding anything. We just wanted Wyatt to stay out of the media for as long as possible. We can devise some kind of visitation so that Mason and Wyatt can see each other regularly. It would be best to keep it out of court.”

“But if we weren’t hiding anything, wouldn’t that mean you knew all along? How does that help you get divorced?” I asked, taking the tissue Eli offered and dabbing at my eyes.

“It doesn’t. But before you argue with me, let me explain. I don’t want Wyatt to grow up and think he’s the reason his father got divorced. None of this is his fault, and I don’t even want people to suspect it. There are plenty of other reasons people get divorced, and we will use one of those.”

Mason and I looked at each other and then Elle. This wasn’t what he was expecting her to say, either. “Well, do you have a plan for us?” he asked.

She nodded. “That I do. When I was going through dad’s stuff after he died, I found a bunch of files with each of our names on them. It took a couple of weeks to get into the one with my name on it. Finding the password to the files was a whole ordeal. In the file, there are pictures of me with Silas. There are plenty in which you can’t see his face or identify him. If those happened to fall into the wrong hands, the gossip circus will certainly take over and before you know it, Mason will have to divorce me because I’m not good for his senator image. We release them when I leave on the first campaign trip. Make it look like an active affair.”

“You know I’m a Davis, right? That fits right into that image.”

“Not yours, though. This whole time we’ve been putting forward this notion that you are, well, less of a party person than your family. We will give the Wyatt news some time to gain acceptance and then leak a photo or two to get the ball rolling.”

“I hate it,” Mason said. “We agreed you wouldn’t take the fall.”

“I don’t have a political career to protect.”

“That isn’t true, though. You may not be a politician, but you work directly with them and need their trust. My father won’t let you work on his presidential campaign next year for sure.” His concern for my sister was genuine.

“I’ll resign as soon as we leak,” she explained.

He squeezed his eyes shut for a second, trying to understand. “Why the hell would you do that? After everything you’ve worked for. What would you even do?”

She took a moment to compose her thoughts on the situation. “I realized that it’s not what I want. I thought it was, but I hate being this version of me. It’s all it is, an illusion. I’ve spent my entire life being this person who I was told I was, but I’m now damn sure I’m not. While I can play the game convincingly, I don’t want to anymore. This part is my choice, and this is what I want. I’m asking that you accept that.”

Holy shit, it’s about fucking time my sister took her life in her own hands.

“Are you sure?” Mason put his hand over hers on the table.

“Positive. We will have to plan the timing out well enough, so it doesn’t look as staged as it is, but a few extra months of the charade won’t kill me. Plus, it’ll give me time to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.”

“What about Silas?” I asked. He was the reason she was miserable in her current marriage. She was in love with him but stuck with an arranged marriage to a friend.

“He can’t know. At least, not until we’re ready to leak the photos. After that, I don’t know. Until then, I need everything to fall into place without worrying about whether he is going to show up or do something else that will throw this all off-track.”
