Silas put a tracking app on her phone last week.

As much as I didn’t want to alert Elle that I had lost her sister, I needed Silas’s help to find her. “Hey man, what’s up?” Silas answered. I could hear the band playing in the background.

Weird. Hearing my band play without me distracted my thoughts for a second. “I need a favor,” I responded, remembering the purpose of my call.

“Sure.”

“I need you to use Elle’s phone to find Cee’s phone.”

“She lost her phone?”

“Not exactly. More like I lost her.”

“Shit. We can’t let Elle find out. She will break your legs.”

“I know. Cee stormed out of Mason’s over an hour ago and won’t answer when I call.”

“Give me ten minutes to swipe Elle’s phone and find her. I’ll call you back.”

“Thanks.”

While I waited for Silas to track Cee down, I retraced my steps through the hotel, looking in the bar, the lobby, and the parking lot. There was no sign of her.

My phone rang. Expecting Silas, I answered quickly, but it was Mason. “I found her. I’ll be outside your hotel in five minutes.”

“Just tell me where she is. I’ll get her. The last person she needs right now is you.”

He sighed in frustration. “You won’t get in to see her without me, so be ready in five.”

“Where is she?”

“With my father.”

Oh shit.

Mason pulled up to the curb six minutes later, and I hopped into the passenger seat of his car. “So much for her not being a disaster,” he spat.

“She was fine until you called her a disaster. Just get me to her and I’ll take her back to the hotel.”

“She can’t keep doing this.”

“What do you want me to say, Mason? She’s been through some shit, and now she feels like your teenaged nanny is replacing her in her son’s life.” Despite trying to maintain a normal volume with my voice, I knew it was getting louder.

“I know. I’m sorry about that. Seems Candace misunderstood the circumstances. She feels horrible.”

“I’m not the one you have to apologize to.”

We arrived at his father’s residence a few moments later. The large black gate that enclosed the property opened without a need for us to speak with anyone. An agent waved at Mason, and we proceeded in.

We stopped the car in front of the residence, but we didn’t get out of the car. A Secret Service agent walked out, practically dragging Cee.

Mason got out of the car, and I followed suit. I took Cee’s hand and pulled her close, away from the agent. “Get her out of here,” he said gruffly.

“Thanks, Adams,” Mason replied. “Where are her car keys?”

“Someone is bringing her car around now,” the man said, pointing to Cee’s car coming around the driveway. The car parked behind Mason’s, and I opened the passenger door for Cee.

As she sat down in the car, Mason spoke up, “Catherine, just promise me we won’t be causing a scene here again. You nearly caused a national security breach, for fuck’s sake.” He wasn’t wrong, but I took offense to his tone.
