THE NEXT MORNING, I told Veronica my plans and, true to character, she reacted with equal measures of violence and excitement.

“You’re kidding me, right?” she said, sitting up and whacking me in the chest.

“Ow.” I sat up too. “I told you yesterday I wanted to marry you tomorrow.”

“Yes, but I thought you were joking!” She glared at me with all the fire she possessed.

I glared back at her. “I wasn’t. I want you as my wife. Now. Today. I don’t want to wait a moment longer.”

“And what about what I want?” she demanded, sliding out of bed so she could stand and put her hands on her hips.

I was treated to the full Veronica glare this time, her eyes flashing with passion. She looked magnificent.

I leaned back against the headboard, still confident in my decision. “And what do you want, Veronica?”

“I want...” She huffed. “I want...”

I grinned at her. “Do you want three months so you can plan the flowers and the dresses and the...”

She groaned and threw her hands up in the air. “Hell no. I hate all that stuff.”

I threw back the bedcovers, walked over to her and dropped down onto one knee. Luckily, my leg was much better since bathing in the healing spring. “Then marry me. Today. If you want a fancy party in a few months, we can do that too. But today, please... become my wife. Let me commit the rest of my life to you, and I’ll do anything you want. We can go live in the human world for a few years even, if that’s what you want.”

She frowned down at me, then whispered. “You really love me?”

A laugh burst from my lips. “Hell yes! You’ve already proven you’ll fight death back to save me. Now you’ve gotta give me the chance to prove that I love you just as much.”

She moved closer, a smile playing on her lips. “What about your parents? And your sisters? Don’t you want them here?”

I nodded. “Yes. Theo flew off last night to tell them.”

She rolled her eyes. “Of course he did. Everyone’s conspiring against me.”

Slowly I rose up to my feet. “If you really don’t want to marry me...”

Her hands pressed into my chest, holding me in place. “No, no, no. I’m sorry. Ask me again.”

She took a step back and held her breath.

I knew I shouldn’t laugh, but I was close to it. My beautiful girl had to fight her temper at every turn. I reached out and gripped her hands, which were trembling. “Veronica, Princess of the Northern Kingdom. My beloved. My fated mate. The woman I love with all of my heart. Would you do me the great honor of marrying me today?”

Her eyes glistened with sudden tears and she nodded vigorously. “Yes. I’d love that, Iain.”

I swept her up into my arms, my heart soaring with joy. “Then let’s get started.”

She hugged me tight, but as I put her down on the bed she started pushing at me. “Don’t start any of that stuff yet! You shouldn’t even be seeing me today. So go, go, go!”

I gaped at her. I was still naked, and very obviously ready to make love to her. My cock ached with need.

She pointed at the door. “Quickly! It’s bad luck for you to see me before the wedding and I don’t even know what my dress looks like yet. Go!”

I shook my head, the blood taking its time to drain away from my groin.

Looks like we’re waiting for tonight.

I scooped up my clothes and quickly dressed before heading to the door. Veronica was already in the bathroom and I heard the shower start.

“Hey! Dragon daughter! See you tonight!”
