“I think Thornton goes to Robinson.”

Somehow, her pupils dilated even more. “That’s my favorite place ever!”

“The grocery store?”

“Have you been?”

“No.”

“No?!” she exclaimed. “We’re going one day.”

“It’s a grocery store.”

“No,” she said, shaking her head for emphasis. “It’s an experience.”

My lips curled into a smile, and a low chuckle escaped my mouth. “An experience?”

“It’s like the size of a football field with a huge selection of everything imaginable—a bar, hot food, a second floor where you can eat,” she exclaimed, staring out the window and grinning. “I literally orgasm every time I walk into the store.”

“I’d go just to see that.”

She playfully smacked me. “You will love it.”

When we pulled up at my apartment building, three football players were lingering outside, bullshitting with each other. I didn’t really know, know them, but they had always been nice to me, especially now that the season was ending.

Before I could exit his car, Steven grabbed my wrist. “You sure you’re okay here?”

“I’ll be fine,” I said, pushing the car door open. “Really. I’ve lived here for a few months now, and nothing particularly bad has happened to our apartment yet. So, I don’t think you should worry at all.”

He arched his brow. “Particularly? Would you like to clarify?”

“Not really.” I giggled nervously.

“What happened?”

“Nothing.”

“Sierra.”

“Steven,” I murmured back, but then slapped a hand over my mouth.

Even he blinked in surprise.

While he had told me to call him by his first name outside of class, it still felt … weird. Foreign. Like I wasn’t supposed to say it. He was my professor who taught Sex Education, for fuck’s sake! Not my boyfriend.

“Okay,” I said, wanting to get out of here before I said something really embarrassing. “Well, I gotta go. I have an early morning class tomorrow that I need to wake up for, and if I stay out here any longer …”

I might ask to go back home with him.

Once I forced myself to slam his car door, I hurried past the athletes, who gazed at Steven’s car.

“Good night,” I called over my shoulder as I jogged up the steps to the apartment building.

I tapped my student ID on the buzzer and slipped past the doors once it beeped. After I gave my ID to security, I stepped onto the elevator with butterflies in my stomach.
