Page 30 of Submitting to Slade

“Stop worrying, Who.” Slade rubs gentle circles around the back of my knuckles, soothing my ruffled feathers.

“I don’t know why I’m so freaking nervous.” Yes, I do. I don’t know what I’ll do if my family doesn’t approve of us.

My pulse pounds out of control as we walk up the front steps. “Everything will be fine.” He gives me a reassuring smile and rings the fancy doorbell.

Jazzy throws open the door with Will right behind her. “Hi, guys. Come on in.”

“Says the spider to the fly,” I mumble under my breath before giving my sister a hug.

When I go to hug Will, Slade drags me back. “A handshake will do,” he growls.

“Pussy-whipped motherfucker.” Will smirks over my head. “Join the club.”

Letty and Lex come strolling in, and I sag with relief when we finish up the introductions without bloodshed.

An hour later, I’m starting to relax as things are going much better than I’d expected. The men are discussing tattoos and the Silver Spoon Falls Falcons hockey team while my sisters play nice. That is until Lex mentions Roman Sterling, the owner of The Sterling Rope.

“Skye knows all about The Sterling Rope,” Letty, the traitor, interjects, and our pleasant evening takes a nosedive. “Slade had to rescue her from there.”

“Please explain to us why you thought it was a good idea to take our little sister to a BDSM club.” Jazzy goes in for the kill. Fudge my life. I bet they had this planned all along.

“I didn’t take your sister to the club.” Slade sits back and wraps his arm around my shoulders, completely relaxed. “She was invited to a party there and didn’t have any idea what kind of establishment it is. When she realized her mistake, she called me for assistance.” His version of the story sounds much better. “And I went to get her.” I breathe a sigh of relief when he leaves out the juicier details.

“And you’ve spent nearly every night since at her house.” My face heats as Jazzy airs all my dirty laundry. “What are your intentions toward my sister?”

O-M-G. They make it sound like I’m a freaking kid. “That isn’t any of your business.” Slade stiffens a little.

“My wife is making it her business.” Will steps in to protect Jazzy, and things go downhill fast.

“Well, my woman is my business.” Slade holds his ground. “And not that I owe you an explanation, but I plan to put my ring on her finger and baby in her belly real fucking soon.”

“The ring had better come before the baby.” Jazzy isn’t giving up. Letty and Lex are looking back and forth between all of us like they’re watching a tennis match.

I’ve had enough. I hop up and turn to my sisters. “Stop.” It’s time for me to convince them I’m a grown woman. “Neither of you have any room to talk about premarital sex.” They both blush, and I continue. “Now, Slade and I are in an adult relationship, which means we will decide if and when we get married and if and when we have children.” I point back and forth between my sisters. “You two are going to take a chill pill and let me live my life.”

Slade stands next to me and pulls me close. “There’s no if about it. You’re going to wear my ring and have my eight or nine kids.”

Letty spits her wine all over Lex when she hears the eight or nine kids part as Jazzy sits there with her mouth opening and closing silently. “I really don’t think Skye needs our help in this situation.”

Will leans over to whisper to his wife, “She’s already got the poor bastard so pussy-whipped he can’t see straight.”

“Hello, pot, meet the kettle.” Lex chuckles and reminds Will, “You let your wife call you McScroogie.”

“And your wife walks around with your balls in her handbag,” Will retorts, and I have to bite my lip to keep from laughing out loud.

“I think it’s time for us to head back to our house and work on the first of our brood while they work this out,” Slade whispers next to my ear.

“Oh, no, you don’t.” Jazzy hops up. “I spent the entire afternoon cooking a fancy dinner. You are not leaving until we have a nice family meal.”

“Are you sure you’re ready to join the nuthouse?” I lean over and whisper to Slade.

“I’ve never been surer of anything in my life.” He pulls me close and kisses me to within an inch of my life. “I look forward to eternity with you, Little Who. I love you more than life itself.”

“Ditto.”

“Well, now that we’ve settled that,” Will stands up and points at the dining room across the hall, “let’s all go enjoy the delicious meal my wife spent the entire afternoon working on.”

And just like that, Slade becomes a part of our crazy family.
