“I’m just nervous about this evening. It’s making me tense,” I confess which is not a total lie. I am concerned but even more I’m eager to spend more time with Cam.

“Me too,” Cam says taking a step back and leaning against the elevator wall with her eyes closed.

I take in her silhouette. Her perfect nose and longer than normal throat. How I wish I could suck a hickey onto her neck and claim her as mine.

Stop that, I tell myself.

I need to get myself in check or I am going to jump her bones by the end of the night.

We finally reach the ground floor and as the doors open I am hit with the air of the lobby and no longer suffocated by Cam’s delightful rosy scent.

The ride to dinner is quiet as Cam and I sit side by side in the back of my drivers car. I would usually drive but I plan on having a drink or two tonight and want to be extra cautious with Cam.

We finally pull up to the Italian restaurant that is popping as it is Friday night.

“Wow, this place is real fancy,” Cam says as I help her out of the car.

She immediately drops my hand but I put hers back in mine.

“We need everyone to think we’re engaged remember. Now put a happy smile on that pretty face,” I say as I lead us to the front of the restaurant.

As soon as we enter the door all eyes are on us.

I know I am not what most would consider famous but I frequent this restaurant often and most of New York City’s wealthiest know me.

“What are they staring at?” Cam whispers into my ear.

A chill goes down my spine at her breath on my neck.

“Us my dear, us.”

“Mr. Madison, what a delight to have you with us again. It has been too long,” the greeter, Emilio says.

“Emilio, it has been a while but my fiancée has been dying for some authentic Italian food so here we are,” I ooze.

Emilio’s eyes widen at the word fiancé and everyone around us takes notice of Cam and I.

Cam’s hand tightens in mine and I squeeze back.

“This way, we have the perfect table for you two outside. We have a live band here tonight.” Emilio explains as he leads us outside.

There is a patio with a band on one end playing a slow song as Emilio leads us to a table with a perfect view of the band as well as the sky above.

I pull out the chair for Cam and she beams up at me as I do so.

“You two are adorable,” Emilio says before walking off.

“We are adorable aren’t we,” I say with a wink to Cam.

She flushes.

“Hello Mr. Madison and Ms. Schriefer, my name is Tanya and I will be your server tonight, can I start you off with drinks?” Tanya asks as she hands us each a menu.

“We will have the most expensive bottle of wine that you have.” Cam’s eyes widen at my words. Tanya smiles at us before walking off to fetch the wine.

“You don’t need to spoil me like this,” Cam starts. “I know you’re rich but this is just a rouse.”

“Keep your voice down,” I growl at Cam.
