I watch Maisey as she coos and roars at the lions. I take out my phone and snap a quick photo.

“Are you taking pictures of me Cam?” Maisey asks me with a smile as she poses.

“Of course, your dad wants lots of pictures,” I explain as I take more snapshots.

Maisey keeps posing with the lions as I take photo after photo.

Finally, Maisey is ready to move on so we leave the lions behind.

“I’m hungry,” Maisey complains once it is around two o’clock.

We head to the food court and Maisey gets a small cheeseburger and I get chicken strips.

“How are you enjoying the day so far?” I ask Maisey.

“It’s the best day ever!” Maisey raises her hands in the air.

A small laugh bursts from my throat and then we continue to eat.

Maisey talks about all the animals she saw and which ones were her favorite so far, besides the lions.

After eating, we go to see the sea lions and snow leopards. The snow leopards are gorgeous and catch my attention as I have never seen them before.

I look into their exhibit and snap a few selfies.

“I’m tired, Ms. Cam,” Maisey yawns.

It is past her nap time so we head out and I call for the driver to come get us. As we sit in the car, Maisey looks out the window at the passing buildings before she slams her body back against the chair and crosses her arms.

“What’s wrong Maisey?” I ask, looking at her.

Maisey turns to look at me with a pout before she huffs.

“I heard daddy talking on the phone yesterday.”

“What did your father say?”

“He called you his fiancée… and I am a smart girl so I know what that is.” Maisey smiles at me. “You are going to marry daddy!”

“I think you should talk to your father about this. I’m not the one who should be explaining this to you.”

“But you are going to be my new mommy.”

I swallow as sweat brews on my brow. I do not know how to explain all this to such a young girl and I will leave it to Parker to explain. Our engagement is fake so I’m not sure what he wants to tell Maisey. As her father it should be his choice and his discussion with her and not me.

“How about once we get home you talk to your father about this?”

“Do you not want to be my mommy?” Maisey asks, eyebrow raised and eyes glassy.

Swallowing again, I shake my head, “I would be lucky to be your mother. Anyone would be, I just think you and your dad should have this discussion.”

“Fine,” Maisey huffs again as she sits back.

The rest of the ride back to the penthouse is in silence.

My mind wanders about what Maisey is thinking.

Does she want me to be her mother? Would I be a good mother? Would Parker and I make good parents together?
