“Sorry,” I say.
I feel a little bad for messing with him but it is a harmless joke.
“What were you working on?” I ask.
“Just some stuff to do with artificial intelligence in tech. It would take ages to explain,” Parker says as he takes my hand in his. “Let’s go find Maisey.”
We exit his office and a swarm of children run by and Maisey is one of them. Each has a different balloon animal in their hands and they are chasing each other with them.
“I think Maisey is fine,” I say with a smile. It’s good to see her bonding with other kids.
“I think you’re right.”
“Mr. Madison,” Cynthia calls out.
“I’ll be right back,” Parker says, kissing my temple.
I watch as he walks away and I follow Maisey and the group of kids. Eventually the kids scatter and find their respective guardians.
“What animal did you get, Maisey?”
She holds up her balloon animal with pride, “A bunny!”
“That’s so cool.”
Maisey beams at me and hugs my leg.
“I heard another kid saying that there is a chocolate fountain in the break room. Can we go there?”
“Sure.”
We explore the office a little more until we come to the smallest room which has a chocolate fountain on a table. This had to be the break room.
Maisey finds the snack table and grabs a pretzel before dipping it into the fountain.
“Yum,” she moans out.
“Camdyn?” I hear a deep voice say.
Turning around I see Malcom Strong, one of Parker’s coworkers' husbands.
“Malcolm, it's good to see you again. Where is your wife?”
“She’s over there,” Malcolm points to the corner where Lila is helping a small boy reach the fountain. The child is the spitting image of Malcolm.
“He looks just like you.”
“I sure hope he does as he’s my youngest.”
I let out a laugh and Malcolm joins me but not before setting a hand on my shoulder. I think nothing of it as we laugh before a throat clears behind us.
“Parker, it’s great to see you,” Malcolm says as he stops laughing and drops his hand.
“Malcolm,” Parker says before throwing an arm around my shoulder. I cuddle into his embrace. “Do you mind if I borrow Cam?”
“Of course not, Lila and I can watch Maisey if you’d like to talk with Cam in private.”
“That would be great. We’ll be right back.”
