I was snapped out of the memory when I heard footsteps coming up behind me. Letting out a quiet breath, I put the photo back in its place.

It was for the best not to dwell back on the past; I knew that, and yet…

“Hey, were you looking for me?” I heard Blondie say behind me.

I turned around to face her.

The bright light from the window behind her was peeking through the blonde strands of her hair, casting an ethereal aura around her.

She truly was beautiful. I couldn’t help but think.

She offered me a small smile, and I felt something squeeze inside my chest.

“Hey,” I said, finding it hard not to smile back at her.

The entire library was bathed in warm and golden rays of sunlight, painting a truly beautiful and peaceful scene. It was unfortunate that I had to disrupt it.

“About last night,” I started, twisting my hands together. “I hope that you didn’t feel like you had to… you know?”

I winced internally at how stupid I sounded as I struggled to find the right words.

Thankfully, Blondie seemed to have somehow understood me.

“No, of course not,” she said, shaking her head. “Don’t worry about it. You’re good.”

That was a relief to hear.

It hadn’t hit me until this morning that she may have slept with me out of some sense of obligation, that she felt like she had to do it if she wanted to stay here.

But fortunately, it seemed like I worried for nothing.

“Me and Jack are also kind of…” Blondie broke off with a shrug and I nodded.

“Yeah, I know.”

She quirked an eyebrow at me. “He told you?”

I immediately raised my palms up, shaking my head. “No, no, no. I just accidentally heard you two once. His room is right next to mine, you know.”

“Oh,” she said, and the hint of pink that began to spread across her cheeks was absolutely lovely.

“So just maybe keep that in mind.” I couldn’t help but tease her a little.

Her face scrunched up in a cute little grimace. “Sorry about that.”

I shook my head, chuckling. “No worries.”

I was happy that what had happened last night didn’t bother her. The last thing I wanted to do was make her uncomfortable.

“I…” I opened my mouth to say something else, but then there was a knock on the door.

King’s head peered inside the library. “Sorry for interrupting, but Ace — we should get going if we don’t want to be late.”

“Right.” I looked back at Ludovica. “I guess that I’ll see you later then, Blondie.”

She folded her legs underneath her and waved a hand at me. “See you.”

I glanced back at her one more time before I walked out of the door, but her gaze was already fixed on the book in her hands.
