“If he can afford dinner at Stephanos, then…”

Then what, exactly?Maggie didn’t pursue it. “What do you want to know?”

“Alden said you know him well.”

“Perhaps. Ask away.” Maggie leaned back on the couch. The afternoon sun shone in on her pajamas. That was when she realized she was wearing pajamas in the afternoon with Levi in the house.

Then again, Levi didn’t care what she wore in front of him. On the other hand, Maggie tried to keep it modest.

“I’ll ask you random questions,” Forsythia said. “What’s his favorite color?”

“Blue.” Maggie didn’t have to think at all to answer this one.

“Favorite time of day?”

“Dusk.”

“Christian song?”

“I think he likes ‘Resurrecting’ by Elevation Worship.”

“I like that too. How about his favorite Christmas carol?”

“Maybe both ‘O Holy Night’ and ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.’ But he also likes other Christmas songs. He has a playlist.”

“Wow. Seems like you know him well.”

“I do. Any other favorites you want to know?”

“Season?”

“Winter. He doesn’t like summer because it’s too hot.” Sadly, summer all year was where Maggie was headed.

“How many siblings does he have?”

“He’s an only child.” Maggie didn’t want to go into details, but she added, “His parents are deceased. He was raised by his aunt and uncle—both of whom are also now deceased, sadly.”

Maggie wondered if giving out that sort of information would work against her own personal interest. Then again, the more Forsythia knew about Levi, the better she would treat him, right?

A tear rolled down Maggie’s face. She wiped it with the back of her hand.

Another tear rolled.

“What’s his favorite food?” Forsythia asked, oblivious to the plight Maggie was in on the other end of the phone.

“Seafood gumbo.” Maggie cleared her throat.

Another tear fell.

“Fruit?”

“Kiwi.”

“One last question. His favorite vacation place?”

“At home…” Maggie closed her eyes as more tears covered her cheeks. Why was she so emotional today?

She felt bad. She should be happy for Levi.
