Her silver lining was Levi, who went over to her house every evening with takeout dinner and packing tape. He brought a cart as well, so they could roll the boxes to one side of the living room to get them out of the way.

They would not be packing tonight because Levi insisted that Maggie take a break before she forgot this was Christmas season altogether. Levi suggested a plan for their evening and Maggie agreed because she couldn’t think of a more economical plan.

Right now, she found herself at work at eight o’clock in the morning because Mrs. Kim had called for a meeting at nine. Maggie wasn’t sure what it was all about. It might have something to do with the delayed announcement of her departure from Midtown Chapel.

The only thing she knew was that she was required to work up until her last day at Midtown Chapel. The church didn’t stopwhen someone left. They simply rotated in another worker to take the empty seat.

All Mrs. Kim told her was that the women in ministry were having a meeting. Mostly mothers at church.

For some reason, Mrs. Kim had decided not to email the staff to let them know that Maggie would be moving away in eighteen days. Just as well. After all, Maggie had specially requested that they not give her a farewell party. She wanted to focus on Christmas instead.

Well, if she really wanted to focus on Christmas, why on earth would she decide to move in December? For someone who was supposedly good at event planning, this could be an epic fail.

Maggie regretted that she let her emotions get the better of her. The thought of losing Levi to someone else had made her run away out of town.

Yes, that was the secret truth. Only Tally knew about it.

Ironically, Levi and Forsythia hadn’t worked out. Levi had told her little about their conversation in the restaurant. All he primarily said was that Chef Stephanos had whisked Forsythia away, and Levi went home.

Maggie was sure there had been more to that story, but she would wait until Levi was ready to tell her.

While making coffee for the women’s ministry office, Maggie received a text from her brother, who said that her bedroom was ready for her to move in.

Maggie

Thank you. I won’t need it until the end of December.

Malachi

It’s ready whenever you come. By the way, Mom and Dad decided to buy the log cabin next door. It has a deck over the lake.

Maggie

The lake is stocked, as I recall.

Malachi

Yep. Dad thinks he can fish directly from the dock.

Maggie

I found some of his old rods. I think I’ll take them to Lakeside myself rather than let the movers do it.

Malachi

Whatever you think is best, sis. How’s Levi doing?

Maggie

Why are you asking about him?

Malachi

No reason.

Maggie

He’s been helping me pack Mom and Dad’s stuff. Also he’s been busy at work.
