“So you have to drive back there to get your car.” He checked the clock on his phone. “It will be late before we have dinner.”

“It’ll be all right,” Maggie assured him. She’d explain to him later, but this wasn’t the time.

“Why don’t you let Erika drive the van back to the Village and then she can figure out how to get it to church? You can carpool with me home to your house for our dinner. Tomorrow morning I’ll pick you up and take you to church.”

Maggie studied his face. “Isn’t that a lot of trouble for you?”

“Not when I’m with you. I was trying to find ways to be with you.”

“Wait.” Maggie laughed. “Church is closed tomorrow, Levi. It’s Good Friday. Did you forget?”

“Ah, I sure did.”

“How about this? I drive the van to the Village and drop off the boxes. Then I drive back to church and pick up my car. I can meet you at the house.” It was what Maggie had planned in the first place.

“That’s a lot of time away from you.”

“Or you can always follow me to the Village and church, and we can caravan to my house.” Well, she said “my house” but it was currently only a rental. Mom and Dad had agreed to rent the house to her until she and Levi could afford to buy it from them.

“I suppose I can do that. Then we will have both vehicles.” Levi frowned a bit. “I was hoping to drive with you.”

“I see. We’ve only dated for three months and you’re clingy already.”

Levi gently pulled Maggie toward him. He leaned against her face. “This is the halfway point. Three more months and I get to ask you again.”

Maggie knew exactly what he meant. In retrospect, she could have said yes back in December, and they’d be engaged already. However, she wanted them to make sure that they were doing the right thing in the perfect will of God.

So, they had to wait.

His breath was warm against her ears. He planted a quick kiss on her cheek.

Maggie stepped back. “The camera’s on!”

“Why can’t I show my affection to my future wife?” He lifted her right hand and his right hand in the direction of the cameras that were mounted on the outside wall of the building somewhere.

My future wife.

Maggie didn’t protest.

“Besides, today is my last day here, remember? Monday I’ll be starting my new job at Christmastown.”

“How does your last day feel, Mr. Theroux?”

“Just as I told Pastor Kim last week, I maxed out all my potential here. Time for me to utilize my BBA.”

Maggie agreed that he should put his Bachelor of Business Administration and ten years of experience in the industry to good use. “And you thought Christmastown just wanted you to be the warehouse manager over there.”

“Isn’t it amazing how God works?”

“Yeah.”

Back in December, the warehouse manager position had been the only job that Christmastown had offered him, but Levi explained to them that he might as well stay at the church warehouse if he were doing the same thing elsewhere.

Two months later, God worked it out because the man slated for the regional director position, Rasheed Bolton, decided to retire from work altogether so that he could spend more time with his grandchildren. Cyrus then offered Levi a chance to interview for the vacant position. Out of thirty-nine candidates, Levi rose to the top.

Starting on the Monday after Easter Sunday, Levi would be the new regional director of Christmastown Atlanta.

“I’m so proud of you,” Maggie said. “Praise the Lord for how He has worked in our lives.”
