Levi realized that he had somehow slid down the armchair, so he sat up straight. He checked his vest to make sure that it wasn’t wrinkled in the front. The back, he could hide when he put on the jacket.

“Hey man, thank you again for the honeymoon package you gifted us,” Levi said.

He couldn’t remember how many times he’d thanked Cyrus, but he was truly grateful. Cyrus and Amy had bought them a honeymoon package at Lakeside Resort, where they would stay in one of the honeymoon suites, go to the spa, walk in the woods, canoe on the lake, and generally take it easy for a week.

“Don’t mention it. You know that we suggested Hawaii, where it’s really warm and Amy knows some deals, but you and Maggie chose Lakeside.”

Levi nodded. “Yes, since next Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, we might as well honeymoon at Lakeside, where we can visit with Maggie’s Mom and Dad for Thanksgiving.”

“I’m all for family.” Cyrus smiled. “You ready to go?”

“Is it time already?” Levi checked his phone. Twenty minutes to go before his alarm went off. He canceled the alarm.

“Better turn off your phone too,” Cyrus said.

“Good reminder.”

The two men put on their tuxedo jackets and checked each other’s collars and sleeves.

“Looking good, Cousin.” Cyrus gave him two thumbs up. “I believe you’re marrying the right person.”

“God protected me, didn’t He?”

“He sure did.”

Once upon a time, Levi had thought that Soline was the one.

She wasn’t.

Then he thought that Forsythia was his ideal type.

She wasn’t.

When Levi reached the end of his choices, he turned to God and he talked to his best friend.

And saw her.

Finally saw her for who she really was.

Maggie Jacobs.

She had been there all along, comforting him when he was heartbroken, cheering him on when he tried to bounce back, and caring for him unconditionally.

It had been four years since Levi had known Maggie, two years since they’d been best friends, nine months since they’d started dating, and a whole lifetime ahead of them to continue to be with each other.

My best friend. And today, my wife.

The only woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with—to hold and cherish, to love and care for.

The future mother of all his children.

Levi and Cyrus stood outside the sanctuary door, the same door that the men’s choir used to get to the choir loft.

From behind closed doors, Levi could hear the string quartet playing a medley of wedding selections. They were pleasant to hear and the music was lovely, but Levi started getting nervous.

I’m getting married today!

He took slow, deep breaths.
