Ashley was in a world of trouble. She couldn’t think of a way to get out of this mess because she knew she couldn’t outrun the sexy, sexy male holding her arm like he’d just snagged a trophy. He didn’t seem to want to hurt her, and she didn’t mind him holding her arm, but she needed to split before he convinced her to tell him everything.

She couldn’t even figure out why she wanted to tell him her life story. She’d never had such a visceral reaction to a man before. Sure he was sexy as hell, with his muscular body on display without a shirt despite the cold temperature and his eyes flashing.

And he had no right to have such kissable lips.

Good grief! She couldn’t stop thinking about kissing him. Or finding out just how soft and warm his chest was because his pecs were calling to her and her fingers were aching with the desire to run themall over.

Her footsteps faltered as heat rose inside her again, her stomach clenching.

She took the opportunity to try to break free as he helped keep her on her feet, but his grip only tightened on her arm.

“Listen,” she said, stopping the slow march to wherever he was taking her. She pulled her arm back and he stopped moving. He faced her, his eyes narrowed, and his lips pressed into a thin line. “Let me go and I promise I won’t come back.”

“I don’t think so.”

Something clicked within her, and panic surfaced, easily pushing away the arousal that had captivated her since she’d locked eyes with him. He might be sexy, but she sure as hell didn’t want to be held captive. Thoughts of what her sister might have endured as her life had ended flashed through her mind and in her panic, she kicked him in the knee and wrenched her arm free of his grip when he grunted and reached for his knee. She lurched from him, her feet slipping on the snowy ground, before her shoes caught and she was able to run.

“Hey! Wait!” he shouted.

Fear ratcheted through her as she raced away, darting between trees and fighting tears.

Someone grabbed her roughly, swinging her around and bringing her to an abrupt halt. Her teeth clacked together, and a panicked scream rent from her throat. She knew it wasn’t the same man who’d found her in the woods, and she suddenly didn’t want anyone touching her but him. She struggled in the arms wound tightly around her, fear clouding her mind and panic filling her.

This wasnothow her night was supposed to go.

ChapterSix

Romeo heard the female—hisfemale—scream and everything within him went profoundly furious, his tiger quickening his pace. He came upon a scene that made his tiger let out the sharpest, angriest growl that he’d ever made.

One of the ambush security team members had grabbed Ashley and was holding her against him.

The protective male in him went nuts and he was helpless to stop from intervening, even though the tiniest sliver of his brain knew that she’d been effectively stopped and that was a good thing. She’d escaped fromhim, after all.

He barreled into Lance’s side, ripping the male away with a war cry and hitting the ground. He landed on top of Lance, and the male snarled in surprise.

“You don’t touch what’s mine,” Romeo said darkly. He shot up to his feet and looked around, realizing that his mate was gone.

Fuck.

“What the hell, man? You told her to stop, and I stopped her.”

Romeo listened intently but didn’t even hear her footfalls. She was fast for a human, and without a scent to follow, he was fucked, and not in the good, ooh babykind of way.

Snarling harshly, he offered his hand to Lance and pulled him to his feet with a little more force than necessary.

“Sorry.”

“I’ll say it again: what the hell?”

“She’s my mate.”

“And?”

“And you had your hands on her, and she was panicked, and my tiger saw you as a threat.”

“First of all, why wouldn’t you be glad I stopped her when she didn’t listen to you? And second, since when do you have a mate?”

“Since just a few minutes ago.”
