Her mind strayed to the couple in the airport. Had she been human? They could have both been wolves, but something about them made her think she was human and he was the wolf. They could have a relationship, they could be mated and she was clearly in love with him and he with her so…

She groaned and stopped that train of thought.

It would be better if she just left Ohio and got back to her life in California.

But she knew Brent wouldn’t let her leave. And if she tried, he’d chase her down and do something awful to her.

Her only choice was quickly figuring out the best way to take out Midas and the others and stop thinking about Sexy.

Right now.

She’d stop thinking about him. Right…now.

Now.

Damn it.

ChapterEight

Romeo rocked on his heels while waiting for Tera and her mate Melo. Tera was wiccan and had joined the ambush several years earlier. She had a second mate in Melo’s brother Tahlon, and the trio had a few rugrats. He didn’t know Tera very well, but he, Melo, and Tahlon all worked for the construction company, so he spent time with them swinging a hammer.

“Morning,” Melo said as the sliding door to Midas’s home opened.

Romeo turned and greeted Melo and Tera. “Thanks so much for coming.”

“Of course, happy to help,” Tera said. “Assuming I’m able to, of course.”

“I hope you can. I don’t know much about location spells.”

“They can be very effective, but there are a lot of factors that can determine if it’s effective or not, like how long the person was in the area and their intentions.”

He frowned. “Why would the intentions matter?”

“The aura of bad intentions lingers longer than that of good intentions. If someone is evil, their aura will hang in the air like a mist for a while. The aura of a person with good intentions doesn’t linger long at all. It’s just the way of auras.”

He really fucking hoped that his mystery woman’s intentions were good, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that they weren’t, that she wasn’t a journalist like she said she was. He didn’t voice what he was thinking though.

“I’ll take you to where I found her.”

“So sure you can pinpoint it, even though her scent was masked?” Melo asked.

“One hundred percent.” The location was etched in his mind. It was all he had of her, after all. No name, no way to contact her, no natural scent. He felt blinded by the circumstances, but he was determined to find her.

They left the house and walked into the woods.

“This reminds me of when Cyrus found that male spying on the ambush,” Tera said.

“Oh yeah, I’d forgotten about that,” Melo said.

“I wasn’t here then, what happened?”

“It was during Cyrus and Cella’s mating ceremony,” Melo said. “With Cyrus’s extremely sensitive hearing, he picked up the sound of a camera clicking in the woods. None of us heard it. It was too faint for us to pick up. But he’s not entirely tiger anyway.”

Cyrus was a tribrid, a unique mash up of human, vampire, and tiger. He couldn’t shift, but he had access to claws and fangs, as well as enhanced speed and strength and superior senses.

“So what happened?”

“He caught the guy,” Tera said. “And they discovered he was a spy for the First Church of Humanity. Jason Finnegan had noticed the tigers were working with the vampires and were looking for weaknesses.”
