Something possessive skated through her, and she nearly swooned like a romance novel heroine. Where was a fainting couch when you needed one?

“You were touching me too.”

“Yeah, but I’m allowed.” The moment he finished speaking, he flattened his lips, a growl rumbling softly in his chest.

“Oh?” she asked, arching a brow.

He snorted. “Let’s move on, Ashley.”

“This is a more fun topic.”

“Topic?”

“Yeah. You not being able to keep your hands off me.”

“That seems to be a dead end,” he said, his voice going hollow suddenly.

“What?”

“You don’t like shifters. I’m a tiger. I can’t change that, even if I wanted to, which I don’t.”

She exhaled sharply but didn’t say anything.

“I’m not a wolf,” he said.

“I know that.” Irritation filled her.

“I’m not going to kill you or anyone you love.”

“I. Know.” He was infuriating!

“Do you?”

“Yes. I mean, I can feel that you’re telling me the truth, and I know you won’t hurt me.”

“So tell me why you’re here. Tell me why you’rereallyhere, Ashley.”

Every time he said her name, her stomach twisted in an all too pleasant way.

Then he lifted her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles like some knight from yesteryear, and it took every ounce of willpower she had not to simply throw herself at him.

She opened her mouth, fully intending to tell him to stop being sexy or that it was time for her to leave, but instead she said, “I looked it up online.”

He lowered her hand slowly, keeping their fingers linked and resting their joined hands on his thigh. “Looked what up?”

“Why I couldn’t stop thinking about you.”

His brow furrowed and it was adorable. Honestly, he had no right to look so appealing. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d ever been so enchanted with a man before. In fact, she was pretty sure it had never happened.

Romeo was unique. But that was dangerous.

She was on a mission, after all.

She felt like she had two different trains of thought running in her mind at the same time, her whole body split into two: one part wanted to stay with him and tell himeverythingand the other part wanted to run back to LA and forget she ever came to Cleveland. To hell with Brent and Humans Against Shifters. and to hell with the Whisper Creek tigers, including Romeo.

But she did nothing. Despite the war within her, she stayed on the couch with the sexy tiger.

“What did it say?” he prompted.
