He opened the fridge and retrieved two bottles of water.

“Ashley, listen,” he said as he walked into the family room.

Which was now empty.

Shit. He hadn’t heard her leave.

He ran to the front door and threw it open, not seeing her. He raced down the driveway and looked toward Midas’s house. Her car was gone.

Damn it.

How the hell long had he contemplated things in the kitchen?

Long damn enough for her to disappear like a freaking magician.

Lowering his head, he grunted out a curse and trudged back into the house. Well, at least he knew her name, and judging by how she’d reacted to his simple touches and the kiss, which had once again knocked his socks off, she’d come back.

And if she didn’t, he’d track her down.

But first, he was going to do some sleuthing.

He walked back into the house and grabbed his phone.

“You know what time it is?” Cyrus asked with a growl. “I’m a day sleeper.”

“Yeah, sorry.”

“You don’t sound sorry.” There was a rustle as if Cyrus was climbing from bed and then the sound of a door opening and closing. “What’s up?”

“I need to talk to Adam Beaumont. Do you have his number?”

“The wolf alpha? Yeah, sure. Hold on.”

Romeo’s phone buzzed a moment later and he saw that Cyrus had sent him Adam’s contact.

“Why do you need to talk to him?” Cyrus asked.

“Because I think my mate isn’t telling the truth.”

“Wait, you found her again? When did this happen?”

“I’ll tell you everything, just give me a little time to figure something out. Thanks, man.”

“Yeah, okay. You’re welcome. Let me know if you need anything else.”

“Will do.”

He closed the call with Cyrus and opened the contact, pressing the call button.

The phone was answered on the second ring.

“Who is this?”

“Alpha Beaumont? This is Romeo Dawson, Midas Ledger’s second-in-command.”

There was a pause and then Adam said, “Sure, I remember you. What can I do for you, Romeo?”

“Do you happen to know a wolf alpha in Los Angeles?”
