“Absolutely,” Amanda agreed, still catching her breath. “I haven’t laughed this much in a very long time.”

“Me neither,” James admitted, setting the book back on the shelf. “It’s refreshing to let loose and just have fun.”

As they continued to explore the hidden section of the library, their laughter filling the air, James couldn’t help but feel that he was experiencing a new side to love. The playful banter, the shared laughter, and the genuine connection he felt with Amanda were all unexpected discoveries. And while he wasn’t quite ready to admit it, even to himself, he was beginning to view love in a different light.

“Come on,” Amanda said, beckoning him toward another shelf filled with romantic comedies. “Let’s see what other treasures we can find in this literary goldmine.”

As they sat down and started reading the book she’d chosen for him aloud, Amanda and James found themselves sharing personal stories and experiences related to love and relationships. James spoke about his parents’ long-lasting marriage and how their love had inspired him, while Amanda shared anecdotes about her own journey of self-discovery and growth.

“I’ve been so busy the past few years that I’ve forgotten just how much I love reading,” Amanda told him. “As soon as I saw Eloise’s library, it was like coming home after a long time away.”

“Even the cheesy romantic comedies?” James teased, nudging her playfully.

“Especially the cheesy romantic comedies,” Amanda replied, laughing. “They helped me believe that there’s still magic in the world and that love can be found in the most unusual places.”

“Like this library,” James mused, glancing around at the towering shelves and the countless books they held.

As Amanda turned the page, she let out a soft giggle. James glanced up from their shared book, raising an eyebrow in question.

“Okay, I have to admit,” Amanda said, “this part is actually quite funny.”

“Really?” James asked, his curiosity piqued. “Read it out loud. I want to hear it.”

Amanda obliged, reading the passage where the main character wittily bantered with her love interest, punctuating each line with a lighthearted chuckle. When she finished, James joined her laughter, shaking his head.

“I never thought I’d say this, but that was genuinely entertaining,” he admitted. “You know, you might find this surprising, but I’m actually a huge fan of romantic comedies.”

“Really?” Amanda’s eyes widened, and she felt her heart swell at the unexpected revelation. “Which ones are your favorites?”

“Oh, I don’t know if I can choose just one,” James mused, stroking his chin in mock contemplation. “I mean, there’s When Harry Met Sally, The Proposal, You’ve Got Mail...I could go on.”

“Stop!” Amanda exclaimed, clapping her hands together excitedly. “Those are some of my absolute favorites! I can’t believe we share such a love for rom-coms!”

“Neither can I,” James grinned. “It’s not something I usually tell people. Guess I’ve always been a bit embarrassed by it.”

“Embarrassed?” Amanda scoffed playfully. “Well, you shouldn’t be. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a good love story that makes you laugh.”

“All right then,” James challenged, leaning back with a smile. “What’s your all-time favorite romantic comedy scene?”

“Easy,” Amanda replied without hesitation. “The iconic boombox scene from Say Anything.”

“Of course!” James laughed. “How could I forget that one?”

“Watch this,” Amanda said, hopping up from the sofa in the reading nook. She grabbed a nearby book, holding it above her head as if it were a boombox, and dramatically looked up at an imaginary window.

“In your eyes...” she crooned, swaying side to side with a goofy smile plastered on her face.

James couldn’t contain his laughter, clutching his sides as he watched Amanda’s spirited performance. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he joined her, grabbing another book and mimicking her stance.

“Allow me,” he declared, lowering his voice to imitate John Cusack’s deep tone. Together, they swayed back and forth, their laughter filling Eloise’s library as they reenacted the famous scene.

Amanda felt her cheeks flush with warmth and happiness, her heart racing as they shared this ridiculous yet delightful moment. It was as if the characters from her favorite romantic comedies had come to life, and she found herself falling for James even more than she already had.

“See?” she teased, catching her breath after their impromptu performance. “Romantic comedies can bring people together in ways you’d never expect.”

“All right,” James conceded, still chuckling. “I guess there’s some truth to that. And maybe, just maybe, I’m starting to see the magic in it all.”

Gradually, the laughter subsided, and Amanda and James found themselves wandering through Eloise’s library, their conversation flowing effortlessly as they delved into one topic after another. They chatted about everything from their favorite authors to their most embarrassing childhood memories.
