“I don’t think so.” Race snagged her by her wrist and pulled her behind him.

“Where are we going?” she asked, following in his wake down the hall.

“Somewhere where I can contain you long enough to say what I’ve got to say without you bolting before I’m finished.” Race pulled her toward the bed. He put a hand to her chest and pushed her hard enough to make her fall back on the bed.

She quickly crabwalked backward toward the middle of the bed until he stopped her. Race pounced on her and pinned her beneath him. He wedged his hips between hers, leaned on his forearms, and looked into her eyes. He was silent so long, she started feeling the urge to squirm. “God, you’re fucking beautiful.”

She didn’t know what to say to that. Staring into his eyes, she found them to be the loveliest denim color she’d ever seen. She could get lost in them so easy.

“Right. Now it’s time to clear things up for you. The other day when I told you I never pursued the attraction between us because I didn’t think you were old lady material? If you had stuck around and waited for me to finish my phone call, I would have told you that I no longer think like that.” When she had nothing to say to that, he continued. “The attraction, the chemistry between us scared the shit out of me. I haven’t felt that since I met the kids’ mother, Eve. After our break up, I promised myself I would never let myself feel like that for another woman ever again. Then you came along and I was instantly drawn to you and didn’t know what to make of you.”

“I’m guessing you really loved her a lot?” she asked quietly.

“Yes, I did. We met in high school. Married soon after graduation. Not long after I started prospecting for the Sons and then the kids started coming.”

Bellamy felt a pinch in her chest and wanted to slap herself for asking such a stupid question. Why did it hurt hearing about his past life with another woman? They hadn’t been together in a really long time and Eve was actually remarried.

“Past tense, baby.” He tipped her face back to him to get her attention when her gaze drifted toward the side.

Well that made her feel a little better.

“Why did you guys break up?” She probably shouldn’t ask, but she really wanted to know. Had Eve been old lady material? Obviously, she was for a while. They’d been married enough years to produce three amazing children.

“She couldn’t handle all of the drama that comes with a motorcycle club. She told me she loved me, but she couldn’t be with me anymore and she wanted to end things before that changed.”

What he meant was Eve wanted out before what they had turned irrevocably bad.

He gently ran a finger down her cheek, appearing to be fascinated by how soft her skin felt. “Any more questions about me and Eve?”

She shook her head. She didn’t want the nitty gritty details of his marriage. It was enough to know that he’d still been in love with Eve when things ended. Was that why he’d fucked everything in sight after they broke up?

“No.”

“Right. Back to you and me. After we fucked that first time it was like a lightning bolt shot through me. That’s why I reacted like a complete jackass and all but shoved you out the door. Since then I’ve discovered that I wasn’t getting the whole picture when it came to you. The way you wrap yourself on the outside isn’t who you are on the inside. You were holding out on me.”

She was enormously happy that he was starting to see through all the pretty trappings.

He sat up with his legs folded beneath him. Reaching for her robe, he started to untie it as he spoke. “Being a part of the Sons of Redemption isn’t always an easy ride. We’ve had our share of hardships and if I’m being completely honest, we might be heading there again.” He peeled back both sides of the robe, exposing the shirt he’d put her in last night. “Seeing you dressed in all those sexy as fuck outfits you wear every day to work, seeing the classy store you own and the way you present yourself to everyone, I thought you would be too soft for the kind of lifestyle I live.”

He ran his hands from her bent knees, down her thighs to her hips. He sighed heavily and shook his head, some internal dialogue going on in his head. He cleared his throat, his eyes raising to hers once again.

“To say you’ve changed my mind about being too soft would be an understatement. I didn’t realize you had such a badass lurking behind all that sweetness. Knowing you kicked Charlotte’s ass and defended my daughter’s honor and reputation hit me hard. It was then that I saw that there was so much more to you than what you let everyone see. And after witnessing your ass-kicking skills last night firsthand, I think I’m half in love with you.”

“What did you say?” she choked. Was he serious? Did she really hear what she thought she heard? She prayed Race wasn’t playing games with her or she swore to God, his balls would be the next ones she ripped off.

“I said I think I’m half in love with you.” He smiled down at her.

“Only half?” she teased with a tentative nervous smile of her own.

“I’m finding myself falling a little more in love with you every day. That being said, I want you to be my old lady. I want you in my bed every night and I want to wake up next to you every morning. When we fucked at the clubhouse during the storm, I knew then I was never letting you get away. That you belonged to me and I wanted you with me. So, these last few days we’ve been apart and you’ve avoided me at every turn has been painful as hell.”

He grabbed a hold of her wrists and pulled her into a seated position. Reaching for the hem of the t-shirt, he pulled it over her head and flung it to the floor. Her nipples were instantly hard under his gaze. Bellamy felt dampness between her legs and her breathing sped up.

“What do you say? Will you be my old lady?”

“I want to,” she hedged.

“But?”
