Liza and Shannon smiled at each other. They appeared to be happy with his announcement. Derrick, too, was taking the news well, albeit somewhat more contained.

“That being said, I plan on having a couple of kids with her.” He watched all their faces for any signs that this news was upsetting them.

“Kids? How many?” Shannon’s brow wrinkled. Did that mean she wasn’t happy about the idea of no longer being the baby of the family?

“We’re thinking two.”

Shannon and Liza turned to each other and squealed. “I’m so excited! I can’t wait!” Liza cheered.

“So you guys are good with me having a couple of babies with Bellamy? You’re not upset or pissed off or anything? You don’t have any concerns that things will change between you guys and me or you guys and Bellamy?”

“No. I think it’s cool.” Shannon beamed at her dad. “You’d never let things change between us.”

“Yeah. I’m so happy for you, Dad. I agree with what Shannon just said. Besides, more Walkers means more family to love.”

Wow. When had his daughter gotten so smart?

His son had been really quiet, allowing his sisters to do all the talking. “Derrick? How do you feel about all this?”

His son gave him a slow grin. “I’m really happy for you, Dad. And I’m hoping you have a couple of boys so we can outnumber the women in our lives for a change.”

Race’s heart felt full. He was more than thrilled that his kids were so accepting of Bellamy permanently in their lives and with the prospect of having some younger siblings.

The girls finished their ice cream and wanted to head down to Bling. “Yeah, that’s fine. Just keep in mind she doesn’t know that I’ve talked to you guys about all this.”

“Okay. We won’t say anything about marriage or more kids,” Liza assured him. She and Shannon gathered their trash and disposed of it.

Race and Derrick got up and followed the girls out the door, taking their cones with them. They stood outside the ice cream shop, watching them cross the street and head into Bling.

“I’m really crossing my fingers that you and Bellamy have boys. If you have more girls, I’ll just have more asses to kick as they get older when the boys start sniffing around.”

Race threw his head back and laughed at his son’s concern. Derrick was very protective of the sisters he had now. He could see how his son would feel stressed about having to keep any eye on even more. Come to think of it, that meant more assholes Race had to deal with. Maybe he should be crossing his fingers for boys, too.

“What do you think about me getting a tattoo?” Race appreciated the change in subject. Derrick looked thoughtful as he felt him out. He’d been around the club enough to know about Ink Envy and seen some of Chris’s work that Race wasn’t surprised by the question.

“I don’t mind, but you’ll have to clear it with your mom first. Since you’re not eighteen, one of us would have to sign for you.” He walked at a leisurely pace, one hand in his pocket as he bit into the cone. He’d cross the street when he got closer to Bellamy’s shop.

Derrick sighed. “She says not until after I graduate high school.”

Race smiled to himself. He figured Eve wouldn’t be too hip with the idea. Probably saying something like what he might pick out now may not be something he wanted permanently on his skin as an adult. Derrick confirmed this when he added, “She says my taste in tattoos will change between now and then and I should give it serious thought so I don’t look back and regret my choice in tattoos when I’m older.”

“Makes sense.” Race took another bite of his cone. “Have you given it much thought about what you might want to do after graduation?” He watched his girls disappear inside Bellamy’s store.

“Not sure.”

“You thinking about college?” Race stopped when Derrick did.

His son released a heavy breath and seemed to brace himself. “Not sure college is my thing.”

“Okay. Have you given trade school any thought?” Derrick’s shoulders relaxed a little when Race didn’t immediately jump on the college bandwagon and try to change his mind.

“I don’t know. Maybe. I’m leaning more toward trade school than college.”

His son made excellent grades and Race would like to see him continue his education, possibly even continue playing sports. Ultimately, it was Derrick’s decision. “Hope you know, whatever you decide, I’ve got your back. Your mom will, too.”

“I’m sure you know I’m going to want to prospect for the Sons at some point,” Derrick tested the waters.

Race’s face lit up. Nothing would make him prouder than to see his son fill the next generation’s ranks. “I wondered if you were interested. I don’t want you to think just because I’m in the Sons and I’m president, I expect you to follow in my footsteps. I want you to travel your own path to find what makes you happy.”
