“Isn’t that a fancy way to say you’re a human trafficker?”

“Very good. I could get a good price for you, Bellamy, but for her?” He nodded toward Liza. “I could get top dollar. Young, blonde, virginal. You are a virgin, aren’t you, love?”

“Oh my god,” Liza’s voice was strangled and her face flushed red.

“I’ll take that as a yes.” Jacob’s smile made Bellamy’s skin crawl.

Who did this man think he was, kidnapping innocent, unsuspecting people and selling them into a life of slavery? What gave him the right to do it?

Bellamy fisted her hands in her lap. “I thought you were trading us for your man?”

“That’s what I told them, yes. I plan on getting Kurtis back, killing the Sons of Redemption and then selling both of you for as much money as I can get. I can’t touch her without ruining her innocence, but you look like a woman with some experience. I bet being with a biker, you’re into all kinds of kinky things.”

“Fuck you,” Bellamy spit out.

“Maybe. We’ll see.”

His man Andrew, the one who shot her grandmother, approached and whispered something in Jacob’s ear causing the man to tense. They exchanged a few more words that Bellamy couldn’t hear, then Jacob excused himself and left. Charlotte, Lawrence, a.k.a Mr. Roboto, and Andrew followed behind him. Alone again, Bellamy took a deep breath, and released it out slowly.

“Bellamy, what’s going to happen to us if Dad doesn’t find us in time? Do you think that man Jacob is really going to sell us?” Liza was doing a good job holding it together considering the girl was only fourteen years old. She kept up a good, strong front while Jacob and his goons were around, but now, with them gone, Bellamy could see the cracks in her armor.

“Don’t give up on your dad yet. He doesn’t strike me as the kind of man to ever give up. He’ll find us. They’re supposed to make the trade in less than an hour. We just need to hold it together a little while longer.” She wrapped her arm around Liza’s shoulders and gave her a gentle squeeze. She sent a silent prayer that Race was able to rescue them at the trade and that he and his club stayed safe. Somehow, she would keep Liza safe until then.

They each retreated into their own thoughts until Liza spoke up. “I’m really glad you and Dad are together now.”

“Really?” Bellamy was surprised that Race’s kids were so accepting of their relationship considering she and the kids hadn’t known each other for very long.

“Yeah. He’s been into you for a while whether he wanted to admit it to himself or not.” She reached over and grasped Bellamy’s hand, giving it a quick squeeze. “He kind of lights up whenever you’re around and he seems happier than I’ve seen him in a long time.” Her smile widened as she laughed. “We’ve even caught him watching out his window waiting to get a glimpse of you.”

“No way. Your dad’s been watching me?” Bellamy was shocked. She wasn’t sure if she considered his spying funny, sweet or disturbing. She thought the man couldn’t stand her. All they did was bicker when they were around each other. Until he claimed that she was his and that they were going to be together, it had been a toss up as to whether she was going to continue to live next door to the dream she could never have or move.

“Yeah. It’s kind of sweet.” Her teeth sank into her bottom lip as she appeared to be debating on saying something that was on her mind. “You know he doesn’t personally clear his tenants’ driveways of snow, right? He dumps that on the prospects. He made an exception for you.”

“Really?” Bellamy’s head jerked back in surprise.

“Yes. If the tenant is a single woman he’ll assign it to the prospects. If there is a man living there, he’s on his own.”

Thinking back when she’d asked him why he was clearing her driveway, he’d told her as her landlord it was his job. She’d figured he only did it because she was a woman and friends with Calliope. The club was known to take care of the old ladies and friends of the club. Being friends with Calliope put her in the second column. She hadn’t dared read anymore into it. Liza’s news caused her to smile for a moment until the reality of their situation came roaring back to take over her thoughts.

Bellamy leaned her head back against the metal bars and couldn’t help but feel nervous about the coming trade. Surely Race and the guys would know that the whole thing was a setup to take out the Sons of Redemption. He was a very intelligent man, so yes, he would know that and take that into consideration. She imagined having had to deal with rival MCs would have prepared him for dealing with evil men like Jacob.

Her gaze drifted to the wall clock on the opposite side of the room. Time was ticking down. In less than an hour, she and Liza would either be walking out of here with Race or being sold to strangers. She refused to believe there was any other outcome than leaving with Race.

When they got out of here, she wanted to know how her grandmother was doing. Was she still alive? Was Cathy or Race able to get her medical help in time? The thought of Grandma Martha not being around was not one she could fathom. She loved that woman like crazy and would be lost without her.

She also wondered if Race had told her brother about Grandma Martha being shot or her being kidnapped. If Preacher was now involved, heaven help Jacob Jacobson. Because it was going to be a toss up between Race and Preacher as to who was going to kill him first.

“You know this is a trap,”Jackson stated. “He’s going to want payback for us taking Kurtis. As far as he knows, we’ve held the prick captive for a while now and he will assume we’ve tortured him a lot over that time.” Seeing everyone was following his train of thought, he continued. “My guess is he is going to try and take us all out at the trade and more than likely, he is going to sell Bellamy and Liza anyway. There is no way a powerful man like Jacob Jacobson is going to just take Kurtis and walk away. A lesson has to be taught so no one ever tries to fuck with him again.”

What Jackson was saying was true. Race knew it. Every brother here knew it. They were walking into a trap. Their best hope was that he, Jackson, Trick and Preacher were able to deal with whatever Jacob had planned once they were inside. Their odds of surviving went up when Preacher sent Levi to the car to bring in a gift. The gift turned out to be kevlar vests. Race would take any advantage he could get.

His phone started ringing, diverting his attention. He pulled it from his pocket and glanced at the screen. “Fuck. It’s Eve.” He got up and headed to his office to deal with his ex in private. He closed the door behind him and answered. “Eve.”

“I just got off the phone with Derrick and when I asked about the girls, he told me I needed to call you. What’s he talking about? Is there something going on with the girls?” Eve sounded suspicious. She was a mom and a wife and could spot a lie or evasion a mile away.

“Shannon is fine. She’s with Derrick at Calliope and Jackson’s house. Liza is with Bellamy.” He started pacing back and forth in front of his desk, his hand on his hip.
