‘Is this you kicking me out?’

‘Pretty much.’ I nod. No, it’s not. Please. Stay.

‘I know when I’ve fulfilled my duties.’ She chuckles as she roots around for her dressing gown and now-ripped top.

She dangles the top in front of me and shakes her head, reprimanding me comically.

‘It takes two.’ I arch my eyebrow in defence.

‘It certainly does. Thank you, Caleb.’ She kisses my cheek, takes her grapefruit from me and leaves.

I assess the damage. It is like a tornado has been in my bed. I’m still going to cook her dinner tonight. I’ve flipped the process, but I want to tell her still. I can smell her gloriously distracting scent on me. I can’t wipe the stupid grin off my face. Getting out of the house for my run will do me some good. That is the intention, until I find myself knocking on her bedroom door.

‘Come in!’ she calls from the other side.

I find her sitting on her bed in a towel, drying her hair with another.

‘So, I wouldn’t say you fulfilled ALL your duties,’ I declare.

She studies me with a laugh playing on her lips.

‘Really? “Ariella! Shit! Fuck! Stay there! Don’t move! No! Wait! Aaaaaarrggh! Hmmpfftgbhvvvmmmmuuughhhh!” sounded pretty duty-fulfilling to me, Caleb.’

I forgot she can be rude when she wants to be. She actually crossed her eyes when she said ‘Aaaaaarrggh!’; but I can’t help laughing. I take a step forward. I’ll show her rude. She shakes her head with playful fear on her face.

‘Caleb, no! This is the third time I’ve washed my hair without putting a comb through it since last night, thanks to you. I’m going to have to shave it off if I keep doing that.’

‘We can put a comb through it later.’

‘This is a bad idea.’

‘I know, right? Welcome to your sex life upgrade.’

‘I wouldn’t call it an upgrade…?’

She has got to be joking. ‘Rubbish. You got an orgasm masterclass last night!’

‘There’s no doubt you’re technically proficient, and I get why you’re “popular”, but…’

Unbelievable. I delivered four squeals and two shudders in less than two hours. I’m a badass at this.

‘I’m intrigued as to how you think I could’ve fallen short of any expectations,’ I challenge her.

‘You’re a little like a race-car driver. You know all the twists and turns and you’re constantly calculating how to take the car, me in this case, across the finish line. Which you did beautifully, repeatedly.’ She smiles.

I’m not sure whether I should feel insulted.

‘What’s the problem with that?’

She looks a bit embarrassed.

‘I really wanted you to enjoy the drive. Not just at the finish line, but all of it. You seemed a little preoccupied.’

‘You don’t think I enjoyed it?’

‘For sure the end, but I’m not sure about the rest of it?’

What has Jasper been doing to her?
