“I thought I’d make it easier on you.”

“Thanks.”

“Not a woman of a lot of words today are you?”

“It seems it.”

“Why are you struggling so hard with this?”

“Beats the hell out of me,” she said, letting out a laugh.

“You reached out with a greeting. Was there more?”

“Maybe,” she said.

He let out a snort. “If I ask you out are you going to tell me no?”

“No,” she said.

He laughed. “Okay. I’ll take the pressure off of you. How about we start simple? Dinner tonight? This weekend? You pick the time and the place.”

“I can do that,” she said.

“Can you give me a heads up if it’s going to be tonight or tomorrow?”

“Tonight,” she said. “Let me think on it about when and where.”

He laughed again. “Is it going to be hours or minutes for you to think about it? At least it won’t be days since you said tonight. Unless you change your mind.”

“You really are chatty.”

“Only trying to relax you. Is it working?”

“A little. Give me ten minutes. If I don’t reply then you can call me back.”

“Deal,” he said and hung up on her.

She started to scroll around through restaurants and nothing was catching her eye.

Then she wondered if eating out was a good thing or not. Someone might see them. No way she wanted to risk that.

She was still scrolling when her phone rang and it was Gabe.

Damn it, how had ten minutes gone by so fast?

Then she looked at the time and noticed it was fifteen. At least he gave her a buffer.

“I’m sorry,” she said.

“No worries. I’m only doing as you said.”

“How about I cook you dinner at my place? I’ll explain more and why I decided that.”

“You don’t want anyone to see us together,” he said. “I know.”

So much for not being obvious. “That and you said you didn’t cook. That Jocelyn is feeding you. Maybe you’re sick of eating out all the time if Jocelyn gets tired of you.”

“I absolutely am,” he said all excited.
