Richard, Grant, Garrett and Jim were all at the new building. Gabe was on another floor and he’d go up and talk to him soon. It’d be the thing to do. The fatherly thing to do.

But before he did that, he and his buddies had to get their facts straight and he’d leave it to them to fill their wives in.

“Gabe told me first thing this morning,” Jim said. “I mean it’s not that I didn’t know. He just said that Elise was going to tell you today and that it wouldn’t be a secret. He asked that we hold off reaching out to you so Elise could have the honors.”

“I appreciate that,” he said.

“What are we supposed to know that Gabe said to you about this?” Grant asked. “My wife will want those details.”

Garrett frowned. “Men don’t get those details. Our wives can figure it out between themselves.”

“That was my plan,” Jim said. “I’m just saying that Gabe said he wore Elise down. That her stubbornness didn’t stand a chance. Words to that effect. We were laughing too hard when he was throwing those words out. I know he was just happy to be able to not hide it anymore.”

“That’s good,” Richard said. “I’m glad that it’s working out. More so that Gabe is being considerate of Elise’s feelings on the matter.”

“He always will be,” Jim said.

“So now what?” Garrett asked. “We just sit back and let them do their thing?”

“That’s what we’ve been doing for months anyway,” he said. “Nothing different here other than we can pester Elise.”

“Really?” Grant asked.

“Wrong choice of words,” he said. “She’s still stubborn and won’t want interference. We have to make sure that she doesn’t find out you had the two of them paired up.”

He told them about Elise’s comment in regard to Royce and Chloe.

“She makes a good point,” Garrett said.

“She does,” he said. “So for now, we just play it off as you are redirecting as whoever you had set up for them isn’t going to work.”

“Don’t worry about me,” Jim said. “It’s more about Grant and Garrett. This is their deal.”

“Please,” Grant said. “You both wanted our help.”

“We did. We do. But maybe these two would have figured it out on their own,” Richard argued. Though he wasn’t so sure of that.

“Did they say when they started to date?” Grant asked.

“We found after the first of the year sometime,” he said. “Why?”

“I just wonder if the New Year’s Eve party helped,” Grant said. “Ryder told me he’d seen Elise and Gabe talking outside that night and Gabe leaving ticked off, Elise upset when he popped his head outside.”

“When did you find this out?” Richard asked. This was all news to him.

“Before I came here. I gave my son hell for not telling me before, but he said it’s too much fun to watch us spin in place.”

He wasn’t sure he’d find out what that was about but had to tell himself to let it go for now.

“It seems we get blocked more than we get helped,” he said. “For now we’ll let it go. Gabe’s on the fourth floor, you said, Jim?”

“He is. I’m sure he’s expecting your visit.”

Richard left the men and went up two floors to see the man that was dating his daughter.

He’d wanted to talk to him more before now, but it was too risky with people around and no one supposed to know.

Not even his son knew and he figured Royce might give him a hard time there. They’d deal with that when Royce returned.
