“That doesn’t count. You were angry over a misconception.”

Don’t remind me. I wrap my arms around her, careful not to disturb her hair. “You can cater dinner parties from here on out if you want.”

Ani grins at me. Yeah, I didn’t think so….

“Okay. I’d be happy to.”

Huh, that’s not how I saw this conversation going.

“You can help.”

Wait, I canwhat? Ani sighs, trying to extricate herself from my arms, but I’m not done holding her yet and tighten my grip.

“David. I have to unpack.”

“No, you don’t. I couldn’t wait,” I murmur against her lips as my hands slide over her glorious ass. “I unpacked your things.”

Ani giggles, stepping back when I reluctantly release her. “I still need to get ready. Everyone will be here soon.”

I watch her go with a grin, adjusting my tie and dropping back onto the couch, finding a random golf tournament to aimlessly watch as I wait.

Ani hasn’t emerged when there is a hammering on the door, so I cross, open it, and grin at Timmy and Angie.

“Down to the wire,” I tease, hugging Timmy and dropping a kiss on Angie’s cheek. Timmy flips me off, but Angie laughs, shaking her head.

“You forget, I’m a master planner. We are perfectly on time for this summons.”

I step back to let them in, shutting the door. They follow me around to the spare bedrooms. I set them up in the corner one, not the one that Ani used when she stayed here.

“The boys should be here soon.”

“Okay, we’ll just freshen up.”

That’s probably Timmy and Angie speak for bang each other’s brains out. Mock saluting them, I duck Timmy’s handas he attempts to smack me upside the head and move back to the living room. The caterers are in the process of moving everything upstairs, and one of the chefs is thoroughly cleaning the kitchen.

My eyes find the clock. They better be quick. I told the boys to be here for drinks in ten minutes. Our bedroom door creaks open, and my eyes widen, my tongue darting out to wet my lips. Ani looks incredible in her red lace dress she wore a few times to dinner when she stayed here.

“You look beautiful,” I tell her, stroking her cheek. Ani blushes prettily and ducks her head. She looks around apprehensively at the knock on the door. That will be the boys. Raising Ani’s hand to my lips, I press a kiss there and move to open the door.

“David! We need to plan more random dinner parties. I like this idea.” Ryan slaps me on the back as he steps through the door, and Beau nods his agreement, following him inside.

Moving to the door, I open it, and Beau and Ryan step through.

“No Max?”

“He got a call on the sidewalk.” Beau hugs me, slapping my back.

“Oh, the party’s here.” Timmy and Angie walk out of the hallway, moving across to greet everyone. Well, Timmy walks across. Angie stays near the kitchen, her eyes glued to Ani. When Timmy turns to see where his wife went, he spots Ani as well. She squirms under the curious glances everyone throws her way.I take two steps toward her to take her hand and introduce her to everyone, but stop when Max strolls in.

“Everyone can relax. I’ve arrived. Timmy, where’s that wife of yours? Hey, Angie. Looking good. What’s up, David?” Max’s eyes land on Ani and widen as he blinks at her in shock.

“Anica,” he says, sounding as surprised as he looks. “You came back from Chicago.”

Ani smiles warmly at him, fidgeting with her hands.

“I did,” she agrees softly. I smirk as everyone’s eyes dart between Ani and Max, completely drawing the wrong conclusion. Max snorts, crossing to greet her properly, still talking.

“It’s a good thing you did,” he drawls, jabbing his thumb in my direction. “He was a fucking asshole without you.”
