When he doesn’t speak, I gesture for him to answer.

“Krista, you’re wasting your breath –” he starts.

“But I’m not! How can you not see this the way I do? How can you not see that we are meant to be? Can you honestly look me in the eyes and say that you refuse to be with me? Well, you know what I have to say to that? Taura shit! I won’t accept this any longer. You can’t do this to me. You can’t do this to yourself, I won’t let you.”

Lasta steps forward before I can say another word and presses one finger to my lips before speaking.

“I was going to say that you’re wasting your breath because I was going to come and see you later today to tell you that I took care of our problem.”

“What?” I ask once he removes his finger.

“I sent Sellis away this morning. He’s gone, along with his men. I made it look believable enough that he won’t be bothering us any time soon.”

“What – what does this mean?”

“It means that we can be together. It means problem solved.”

I shake my head back and forth, letting a small smile break out.

“Does that mean that I didn’t need to say any of that?”

“Precisely.” He chuckles. “But I’m glad that you did. It was nice to hear how much our love means to you.”

“We can be together?”

Tears prickle at my eyes.

“We can be together,” he confirms, scooping me up into his arms.

“You have to promise me something,” I whisper.

“Anything,” he whispers back.

“Nothing can ever come between us again,” I state.

“Nothing. I promise.”

Our lips find each other as he pulls me up around his waist. I wrap my legs around him and hold him as tightly as possible, as he does the same.

We stay like this, lips working together, in each other’s arms, for what feels like hours. And yet when we finally pull away, it still feels like it wasn’t enough.

“I missed you so much,” he says, voice gravelly.

“I missed you too… every second.”

“Sometimes I would sneak and watch you with the royal babies. But not too often, because it only hurt me to see you with children that were not our own.”

“Well, now you don’t have to worry about that… right?”

“Right,” he kisses me again.

“Lasta…. I need you,” I whimper.

“You have no idea all the things I’ve imagined us doing in all this free time I’ve had without you,” he responds, hands drifting down past my waist.

“Ooo, tell me. I’ve imagined things, too.”

“You first.” He raises a brow.
