It doesn’t take much longer, and we’re pulling into the clubhouse parking lot. The car speeds past us, and Knight releases a breath. He pulls his phone out and types a quick message before the other guys come out the front door.

“Come on,” he tells us as the boys leap from the truck. Knight takes them and leads them inside as I glance around, uncertain of what’s happening. That’s when Tarek walks over to me.

“Let’s go inside,” he encourages.

“There was someone following us,” I tell him. He nods, already knowing that.

“I know. We’re gonna figure this shit out, Lyra. Don’t worry,” he says. I follow him inside and over to the couch, where he has me sit before one of the girls passes me a bottle of water. I uncap it and take a drink when I hear Billy screaming and rushing toward me.

“This place is so cool!”

“Glad you like it, little man,” Cage says, motioning for one of the girls to leave the room. She’s half-dressed, and I’m thankful he made her leave.

“This place is huge!” Cameron adds as he and Knight come over to sit next to me.

“Did you like it?” Knight asks.

“Yeah, it’s really cool, Knight. Thanks for showing us,” Cam tells him.

“Not a problem. You two wanna run in the kitchen and see if there’s any ice cream while I talk to your mom?” Both of them stand and take off with Ridge right behind them.

“Everything okay?” I ask, turning to face him.

“Don’t know who that was,” he tells me.

“I figured that much out on my own.”

“I don’t like this, Lyra. I don’t like not knowin’ who it is,” he admits to me. I reach over and rest my hand on top of his.

“I know. I’m sorry. I told you I didn’t want this on you,” I remind him.

“That’s the thing. I don’t know if this has anything to do with you or if it’s me. I promised you I wouldn’t bring club shit home with me.”

“This ain’t your fault, brother,” Cage growls.

“I promised her, Cage. Club shit stays here! Now it could be followin’ me home!”

“You don’t know that,” I whisper.

“I can’t risk it either. I’m gonna have a prospect on you at all times,” he tells me.

“Like the one from practice?”

“Yeah. Just like that.”

“And you?”

“I think it’s best if I stay away for now,” he says, breaking my heart in half.

“I don’t agree,” Cage states, but Knight is already on his feet, pacing the floor in front of me. I should have seen this coming. I should have known nothing good could come from the two of us. Nothing good aside from my boys has ever come my way.

“Fine. You want out? Fine, Knight!” I stand to my feet and shove past him, heading for the kitchen, when he stomps up behind me and grabs my wrist. He spins me to face him, and I see the pain in his eyes.

“You think that’s what I want? An out?”

“I get it. You’re young, and you don’t need kids yet. It’s fine, okay? I knew this was going to end one day anyway,” I tell him truthfully.

“I don’t want anything to happen to you or those kids, Lyra. That’s why I need to step back. If it’s club-related, they could come after you.”
