We are determined to help Evie thrive in every way she wants to, and this will help.

I watch as Mac not only finds the funds Adrik has hidden, but also every penny of the men who followed him. The total comes to five times what we expected, ensuring the new generation will be set for a while.

Mac smirks at me over his computer. He is a kind old man, and I found myself really enjoying his company. He’s like an older version of Damien with his sarcasm and quick wit.

“I knew her father, you know?”

My fingers pause over the keys. “Really?”

He nods. “He was a good man. An honest thief in every sense of the word. I will do everything I can to ensure his daughter is well looked after.”

“So will I.”

“Good. I have heard it is unwise to piss off women who have an army of trained assassins at her back.”

My eyes widen in amusement. “Noted.”

He inclines his head, pretending he didn’t just threaten to send a death squad after me if I ever hurt my girl. I mean, I never would, but shit this man has balls of steel.

Yup, definitely just like Damien.

Chapter 55

This plan has been well put together, but the one thing I must say I will get the greatest joy out of is the pleasure of this first role.

I did not ask for much in the planning phase, but I needed whatever happened to reflect what Adrik did to me. Since he was the one behind releasing the video of Evie on her knees, I figured this is the best scene we could set. The only downside is that it’s not night time which makes it so much easier on him.

But that is alright, I will just have to find more creative ways to make him suffer for his sins.

“Phase two will begin with Alexi meeting Adrik at the top of the cliffs,” Evie says, pointing at the map of the island on the table. Everyone watches the figures move across the board as she explains the plan.

“Adrik’s boats will have no choice but to approach the island from the cliffs because of the fires. He will be forced to climb up them if he wants to get back to me, which he will.”

She outlines the path I’ll need to take with the new irrigation system helping to minimize fire and smoke along the way.

“You’ll meet him here and make first contact. The cliffs are a horrible climb, and he may fall and die in the process, which would be great for us all, but in case he doesn’t.”

“I will be there,” I say. “He will not get away. I will bring him to his knees to suffer for the things he did to you.”

Evie levels me with a look that I can read instantly, but I wait it out for a second to see if she will give in and just let me kill him there. She does not, which infuriates me. However, I understand and want her to have her own shot at him.

“But I will make sure he can still walk and begin phase three.”

I lean over the edge to see the water and a lone boat not far from my position. Placing my hands behind my back, I wait. Grunting sounds meet my ears which causes adrenaline to course through my veins.

He should never have underestimated us. Today, he will pay for every sin he committed against her. We will all ensure it. I am just the lucky guy who gets to deliver the first blow.

I move back to the treeline while keeping the cliffs in my sight. Sure enough, the moment he pulls himself over the edge, I approach.

He is clearly exhausted, having spent most of his adrenaline left over from the crash on climbing the cliff. That could not bebetter for this moment. Adrik thought he could use other men to hurt my girl and not suffer the consequences. He was wrong.

Before he can push himself to stand, my foot makes contact with his hand against the rocks. He looks up, surprised to see me. His hair is wet and sloppy, sliding over his face. The crash must have caused a little damage because he’s bleeding from his nose.

My shoe twists in the rocks, squeezing his hand until he cries out in pain.

“You touched what is mine. Now you are going to pay.”

I grab him by the collar of his shirt and toss him back. His head hits a tree, but he only stumbles before gaining his feet. My fist connects with his chin first, knocking him off balance again. When he recovers, getting into a fighting stance with a sneer, I laugh.
