The attic was vast, housing discarded memories from years past.

As the hours ticked by and desperation clawed at our spirits, I came across something.

A small, inconspicuous hole in the corner of the ceiling.

It seemed to lead to the outside, offering a glimpse of the twilight sky beyond.

My heartbeat quickened at the prospect.

Drawing closer, I could feel the cold draft from the outside world, and the scent of the foreign trees and shrubs, distinct and refreshing, wafted through the gap.

As I appraised the size, a surge of hope filled me; I was confident I could fit through.

“Lorik,” I whispered excitedly, beckoning him over.

His eyes widened as he took in the hole and its implications.

“You can’t be serious,” he said, his voice tinged with apprehension.

His protective instincts surfaced immediately. “Madison, it’s too dangerous. If you slip, it’s a long fall. I can’t risk it.”

I looked at him, determined. “The roof structure is similar to the one at my home. I used to climb it when I was younger. I’mcertainI can do this.”

Lorik hesitated, torn between the promise of escape and the danger of the endeavor.

His eyes studied the hole and then me, uncertainty evident. “Madison, I’ve seen you face challenges with courage, but this… this is different.”

I stepped closer to him, searching his eyes. “I can do it, Lorik. IknowI can. With or without your help. But, honestly, it would be much easier if you gave me a boost.”

For a moment, the silence between us was palpable, filled with unsaid words and feelings.

Then, in a gesture as intimate as a kiss, Lorik reached out and softly caressed my cheek.

His touch was soothing, and I could feel the gentle pressure of his fingers, a testament to his worry and affection.

“I couldn’t live with myself if anything happened to you,” he whispered, his gaze locked onto mine.

I felt a flush rise to my cheeks, and the weight of his sentiment tugged at my heart. “I know the risks, but staying here might be just as dangerous. I need to do this. For us.”

He exhaled deeply, the soft sound echoing our shared apprehension.

Finally, he nodded. “All right. Promise me you’ll be careful.”

I nodded, my resolve strengthened by his trust in me.

As I approached the hole, I could feel the coarse texture of the wooden beams beneath my fingertips, the occasional splinter threatening to prick my skin.

Lorik knelt, interlocking his fingers to offer me a boost.

I placed my foot carefully, and as I began my ascent, I could feel his hands firmly supporting me, ensuring I had the best possible chance to succeed.

With every inch, I moved closer to the hole.

The smell of the outside grew stronger, a mixture of dewy grass and the unique aroma of this world.

As I climbed, the slight sound of rustling leaves reached my ears, carried by the cool night breeze.

The sensation of cold air brushing against my skin, juxtaposed with Lorik’s touch, was almost surreal.
