The sound of gently trickling water echoed ahead of us.

Before I knew it, we entered an expansive bathing chamber, its centerpiece a massive marble tub already filled with steaming water, bubbles, and floating petals.

The soft glow of numerous candles illuminated the room, their flames dancing and creating flickering patterns on the walls.

Feeling a bit self-conscious, I hesitated at the entrance, taking in the scene.

The rich scent of the bath oils enveloped me, calming my racing thoughts.

Ruara smiled and spread his hands. “If you need anything, you need only ask my staff.”

He bowed —bowed!— and left, leaving Rurdrax and me alone.

A hint of a smirk played on his lips. “Care to join me?” he inquired, starting to undress.

The sight, sounds, and scents were overwhelming.

I could hear the soft rustling of fabric, the quiet pop of bubbles, and the distant humming of some machine.

The steam emanating from the tub beckoned invitingly.

Maybe that was what I needed, I thought. To soak and relax away the tension.

Taking a deep breath, I stepped forward, leaving my apprehensions and clothes behind.

Slipping into the bath, the water felt like a silken embrace, warm and welcoming.

The petals brushed against my skin, their velvety touch adding to the sense of luxury.

I was acutely aware of Rurdrax’s presence beside me, the familiar ripple of muscles beneath his scales.

It took a moment before our eyes met.

There was a question in his, perhaps seeking reassurance or understanding.

“You’re aprince?”I whispered, even though I already knew the answer.

My voice wavered with a mix of emotions: surprise, confusion, and an overwhelming sense of wonder.

His eyes widened, as he thought back to his earlier conversation with Ruara.

He dipped his head slowly realizing what had happened.

He sighed. “Yes, Madison. I always travel under a pseudonym. It’s… safer that way. Fewer prying eyes and less attention.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked, searching his eyes for answers.

I could taste the saltiness of a stray tear as it trailed down my cheek and reached my lips.

He cupped my face gently, his fingers warm and slightly pruned from the water. “I wanted to, every single day. But the opportunity never seemed right. There was always some danger, some urgency. And when we were at peace, I cherished the moments of being ‘Lorik,’ just a regular Chi with you.”

I leaned into his touch, drawing solace from his presence.

The soft bubbling of the water, the fragrant steam rising, the feel of his fingers against my skin; everything seemed to heighten the intimacy of the moment.

Closing the distance between us, our lips met in a soft, lingering kiss.

I tasted the sweetness of the drink we had earlier on his lips, the heady mix of emotions making my heart race.
