Before I could, he was no longer alone as two larger other figures stormed into the room.

I backed up,refusing to turn and show my back.

There were two of them and they werehuge.

One was slightly bigger than the other and had to duck slightly and turn his head sideways just so he could fit his horns through the doorway!

The other figure was almost as large but there was a sharp, intelligent look in his eye.

I figured he possessed more brains than his compatriot.

The shorter one, barely even matching my height, remained in the doorway, leaning against it and picking his nails.

The largest Chi lurched at me first.

I swung the sick stick and struck him in the chest.

He started, surprised, but was no more shocked than I was at the stick failing to have much effect on him.

I raised it again and jabbed it at his head and neck.

This time, he bent over double and threw up.

While he was down, I swung it at him again, striking him across the back, causing him to hurl once more.

His sharp-eyed buddy used the opportunity to snatch my arm with the sick stick.

I dropped it and caught it with my other hand.

I immediately brought it up to jam in his face.

He was quick to release me and fly backward.

Sensing an opening, I swung at him again.

But his defensive position was only a ploy.

He ran at me, head bowed low, striking me in the gut with the hard bone of his head.

This time, I was the one that was wounded and felt sick.

My arms flew up and the sick stick flew from my grasp, turning end over end until it hit the floor.

“Careful,” the short one at the door said, not particularly interested. “We don’t want her impaled now, do we?”

The sharp-eyed figure raised his head upward, catching me under the armpits and lifting me off the ground.

I kicked and flailed.

My knees would have struck his face and chin but he raised his arms, blocking my blows as if I were nothing but a small child.

I raised my arms and slipped between his horns but before my feet even touched the ground his arms wrapped around me.

He turned me around, pinning my arms to my sides, holding me in a tight embrace.

He turned me toward his little leader, who moved from the open doorway.

Of course! If I was loud enough, I could get someone’s attention!
